Guys, What does a guy exactly mean when he jokingly says he's jealous of my boyfriend?

So, this guy and I know each other for a long period of time, we aren't super close or anything but we're really good friends. So we were school buddies and now go to the same college as well, so once we were talking and he randomly asked if I found any guy at college, to which I replied I found one outside of it and he said he was very jealous laughingly. Now what's funny is even he had a girlfriend at that time. He broke up with her after a while and a few days after that I too broke up with my boyfriend though he still doesn't know about it. What confuses me more is he used to text a lot before he got to know about my boyfriend but after that, he is kinda a bit withdrawn or something, we still have good conversations but it doesn't seem like before... what's up with him?

Certainly he likes you. If a person says that he's jealous of your boyfriend, it means if you were single and circumstances were in favour, he'd be fulfilled to have you in his life as SO. Guys joke this by saying that. They admit that they have no hope left because of your choices, friendship, morality, luck or whatever. When he found that you have boyfriend, his heart was shattered but he was okay with it because he is a man and he knows how to behave and what are his limits. Showing apathy afterwards wasn't a good thing but not everyone is same and maybe he expected more from you.

Then tell him that you broke up. Not directly like "hey! I broke up" but gradually move to that topic and make him known about that fact. And even tell him that you are looking for a new guy. And you wish guys were so nice like him etc. :P

Haha okay but I don't even know for sure if he likes me, he could have asked me out earlier before I started dating, I mean he was the one who got a girlfriend first... he's just so confusing..

I'd say he really is jealous and is trying to mask his true love for you by joking about it but his heart is really breaking into a million pieces on the inside
