My condolences to the passing of dear people in your life.
My friends Rich and his wife Lisa and I have been great friends for 40 years. 40? 40?,...
40 freaking years since meeting Richard. We met backstage at a sold out Van Halen concert in 1981, desperately trying to get in. My method was using my Valley High School sports press pass as a backstage pass, posing as a rookie reporter for ROLLING STONE magazine. Richard, ironically, was right behind me posing as a freelance photographer. It worked for us. We partied like rock stars. Yes. Red Vine licorice, Mountain Dew, and... Weeeeedont remember.
Within that first year of becoming friends, he was a few feet away from being shot in the back while we were being robbed. I was in the line of fire and he watched me get shot instead. We graduated, He married Lisa and started a family, that grew over the years.
I stayed single. Got married, divorced and my four legged family grew over the years.
Now in our 50's and mortality more of a reality, our friendship is as strong as ever.
Van Halen is starting their 45th anniversary tour his summer.
I think I can get backstage passes.
We'll party like aging rock stars. Geritol, mineral water and granola bars.
Aww đ love your answer lol good luck with the backstage passes đ
Thank you, because it was supposed to be a quick answer.
Then Rich called after the first sentence. How cool was that
Timing? Lol that's funny
My best friend, I met in college, and years and years of things! He's an engineer, so it took a while to break through that shell, and find the cool dude, hiding behind!
He's the best, and knows a lot of really great things about cars, and saved me, several times, when I wasn't sure what to do!!
Just best friends, but now we live 2,000 miles apart. I think he was 17, when we met at a Junior college. He just reminded me of my younger brother, and we just seemed to share a lot of 'Geek' interests with computers!
It's so strange, to think about that, and realize we have been friends for something like 30 years!!
OMG! I feel 'Old' just thinking about that! :)
Sorry to make you feel old lol
@Brainsbeforebeauty OH, NO! You can't 'make me' feel 'old', so no apology necessary! I choose what I react to, and maybe 'old' isn't bad, as some might think? Maybe with age, comes wisdom, but I will not say I am wise, just that I have had experiences, and a lot of different ones.
Which makes you wise đ
@Brainsbeforebeauty Maybe I am too modest, to accept that. . . :) :)
Lol ok đ
My 5th grade friend. She is now married with twins in another country. I went to help her after her twins were born. She comes back from time to time... its like time never change, we just pick up from where we left off. Over 30 years. now...
I am also friends with her sister who lives a few towns away. My daughter can call her god mother almost... thats how close we are.
My college friend, we lost touch a bit, now we are both moms and have a career. We spend time when we can, like sisters.
My adult friend I met on a trip, over 20 years. now and I just helped her out today.
Then my work friend became reg. friend, also married with kids...
All these amazing women... we bonded through so much from childhood to adulthood, to motherhood... the life passage how we connect, trust and know how we love ea. other and be there for ea. other... even though we may not see or talk to ea. other.
I also have
There are so many amazing people who I can reach out and them to me, even from online, I meet them and we are now friends... thats what makes life filled with joy and hope and love.
â„ïž great answer. And happy you're blessed with so many great friends
My mom and sister are my friends. I have a friend, her name is becky. I met her in third grade. We hung out a lot last summer. We are a. Lot a like. My husband and I met at age ten, fifth grade. I met a girl on gag, we've known each other over three years now. She came to see me twice already. My aunts are my friends. I have friends from my bible study group. My neighbor has been my friend over five years. I can't think of anymore friends. I love to have friends. Friends make life less lonely and sad.

6 years was my longest, most unhealthy friendship. looking back at it, she wasnât a real friend. Havenât spoken to her since last summer and sheâs blocked on all social media. cutting off certain people is sometimes necessary for your own personal growth.
Sorry to hear that
itâs okay, itâs all a part of the journey
I'm still meeting with my primary school friends (primary school, ages 7-11). Even if not face to face.
Facebook and What's up helped us find each other. Then we all got together two years ago. It was a little affective to meet up years later.
I continue my friendship with two of them.
That's cool đ
46 years and still going strong. We actually swapped BFFs. My BFF was her Kindergarten classmate and I was in First Grade her BFF was my classmate in First Grade. We would all start hanging out and next thing we switched BFF. And She's still the Closest person to each other aside from our Husbands... But our Husbands even know there's knowledge and a Bond between us No One will Ever Touch!!!
Oops drugs have my math skills off 42 years, I was 6 and I'm 48... I believe that's 42 it's a loooong time... We've been through our ehole lives together...
That's awesome
Very cool and amazingly timed post as I saw my longest friend just last night. Been 46 years from when we were 6. Don't see each other too often. Couple times a year. But always is as strong and familiar and good
While I'm sure you miss them terribly every day, memories of your husband and friend Terry I bet are even more powerful with how long you were friends. Time like that creates everlasting eternal bonds and memories.
Thanks. đ
Longest friendship was 12 years. It was a friend from school that I knew many years after.
She moved away and I had a relationship where my then girlfriend felt it wasnât appropriate I have a female friend. She got married and found a husband that felt I need not be in her life.
Sorry to hear that
I'm glad she's happy. She had a dude that wasn't nice to her before. If me being scarce helps that, so be it
Aww, well that's you still being a true friend.
My best friend I've known since we were both 11. And we hung out in high school, but not all the time. But we've been really close since we reconnected at about age 21. And now we're both 33.
I have another good friend that I've known since I was like 5 or 6. I've kept in touch with him pretty well through the years. But he's married now, so we don't really hang out anymore (though we still do communicate.)
That's good. Real true friends quality is better than quantity
Thanks! And I agree.
I guess my ex-wife, and we are still friends we should have our daughter. And it's been 29 years and counting. (She is with someone now) and I'm good friends with her boyfriend. I'm grateful that we are all adults about this. I have to say she has been the best ex-wife in the whole world. And I would never backstep and ruin what she has going for herself.
That is so awesome. And how it should be when you have kids. Mad respect for you and your ex for getting it. Your daughter is blessed to have parents like you â„ïž
I am very blessed and grateful that it ended up that way. Thank you
@Brainsbeforebeauty
I have 3. I met two in 7th grade and one in high school, so a good 20+ years all around. I have some good friends I met in the Air Force, so they get another 13-15 years. I've been blessed with my long term friendships. Most of them inspire me to be better, they are all smart and quirky, and I love them and they me like family.
Sixty three years and counting. I have friends I don't remember not knowing. I've known them since we were babies. I have another friend I've known since I was 5, so that would be 58 years. There are also some people I've known for 45+ years or so.
We all scattered and moved everywhere. So we don't see each other often. But we still get together when we have a chance. I can't even remember the last time we were all together at the same time. I'd guess some time in the late 70s.
Beside my brother who i have known all my life and we don't have boundaries on our relationship. SO! My childhood's friend since i was 6 years old till i was 20, i moved to another country so we didn't meet since 2005 and once i heard the saddest news in 2014 where he got killed (ISIS attack) and he was no longer with us. I made new friends, my wife is one of my best friends since 2008.
I've had the same best friend since 4th grade. im in 11th now. its nice because we've become such good friends that even though we only see each other once every month, we are still just as close, and we're always able to pick up right where we left off.
O don't keep friends. but there's this guy whose always been there since I was like five. Todd.
He is such a charmer but my introversion never let me enjoy most of our time. I'd rather just be in my room and talk to him via internet. but he still never left. should I call that friendship?
Sounds like it
I'm still in touch with three different people who grew up on my block. We played together from the time we could walk outside. That must be going on almost 65 years.
That's awesome
I met my wife-to-be when I was 12-13 since our moms were (kinda-sorta) friends. Move forward over a decade and now we've been married over 40 years. So, closing in on 60 years now. (Gosh - now I feel old!) ; - )
Your still young đ and awesome you've been married that long and she's still your best friend â„ïž
Sorry to hear about your hubby and great friend.
I have a good I have known since 1st grade. Honestly can't tell you how many years it is and dont feel like straining my brain lol sorry. Dont really keep in touch now but when we run into each other we can kick it like the good old days. People like that are irreplaceable
19 years and not really. We were friends from age 11 to 30. He changed dramatically after meeting his now wife. So much so I began to wonder if I ever even knew him at all. He became all about her and her wants. Time and time again he canceled plans as she didn't approve, was upset, bored, jealous, etc. He lived to please her. We haven't talked in 4 years and I'm ok with that.
My longest friendship is with my best friend. We first met when we were 3 years old. We've been friends for 27 years. And with time our friendship becomes stronger.
That's awesome!
đđ
I know it's been a long time since then, but... Sorry for your losses.
As for me, I think the longest-running real friend is about 6 years. Everyone else was either some form of acquaintance or a classmate from school. Never had a real friend until I met the one I have now. ... She's the only real irl friend I have, now that I think about it... If I'm including internet friends though, about a decade. But I don't even know/remember their real names...
I had a best friend since 4th grade, we were BFF's about 10 years and 8 months. He betrayed me after standing up for him when his girlfriend was mistreating him just because he claims he loves her. And he slowly distanced himself from me via Facebook until he blocked me. I started to resent him before but now, I am able to let him go!
Probably when i met my best guy friend in middle school. We were friends through high school and into college. We were friends even after that up until about 2012 or 2013 when he threatened me with a gun. So now we are not friends anymore.
Sorry it ended so badly.
Im not it got to a point at the end where he was always competing with me for everything especially with politics.
Yeah I don't like when people make everything competition
15 years is coming up this month, jeez. We both started school when we were 4 on the exact same day and we have been great buddies ever since.
That's cool you're still friends
My best friend and I have been friends for 20 years! I really hope we stick together for life!
That's good. Friendships that last that long usually s stand the test of time
Thank you guys!
Been friends for 23 years. Sheâs my longest friendship but sheâs not my closest friend. We called each other best friends until the age of 18 or so. Nothing crazy happened we just realized we arenât as close as we used to be.
My friend Rilian that I've known since 5th grade. Though we don't talk every day (we live about 50 mins from each other) she's still a good friend. I went to her wedding two years ago and we see each other from time to time.
I have a best friends since 1991, 1995 and 2000 and 2001.
That's great
Since I have grown up in the same area that I was born in, I still have friends that I have known from kindergarten.

Longest friendship lasted about Four years. We're not really friends. At least, it's not mutual. See, He calls me His best friend, but He treats me poorly.
Yes, I've had people like that. That's the difference between supposed friends and real friends.
