My parents sucked to put it succinctly. Overprotective mother and under protective father. Besides feeding me, and making sure I survive, they were practically worthless. My father didn't discourage me from bad things I shouldn't do. My mother discouraged me from good things I should.

Thank you. I sympathize with your situation. My guardian was unstable and bitter and took great pleasure in blocking me from anything she could think of. She also was physically abide with do I ran away at 14 to protect myself. But it as the constant gaslighting that nearly destroyed me. its so difficult being a kid in dn I he shoe situation bc the first assumption is “ parent knows best” so in my opinion when they don’t you are constantly fighting to simply not drown.
I hope things are well for you now. I have always had a high opinion of you on here 💕 - +1 y
I got the exact same feeling as with VIVANT. I left the home as soon as I got a full scholarship for uni though. I fled the home. And I was scared because my mother did everything she could to keep me there. I didn't know what to do. I just packed my bags and left and I didn't know what to do. :-D But soon after, I was so thankful to leave that godforsaken house.

I became so dependent on her. She picked my clothes and everything, even though I protested. I really wasn't prepared for that flight out of the bird's nest. I got so dependent on the mother saying, "You should do this! And do that! And don't date this girl! Clean this, do that!" So it's like when I was free from all that, I didn't know what to do. No one is telling me what to do. :-D That was one of the most difficult things I ever did was leaving that house. As toxic as my mother was, I became dependent on her so much. I felt so lost without her for a while.

@VIVANT You're welcome. I'm sorry to her about what happened to you. It was an horrible situation, especially for someone who was only 14. No one deserves to go through that especially at a young age. I'm glad you managed to run away and I also you're in a better place now.
Unfortunately I still have to deal with my mother because I'm haven't managed to become financially independent yet. But as soon as I'm able to provide for myself I'll leave her. I probably won't see her again. Awww thank you! I also like you. 💞💞
Besides being lgbt? Taking a job in another city across the country because I would be abandoning my family.

My parents were so personally FCKED UP, that I wanted to be ANYTHING, but, what they were!! Sad, and HORRIBLE ROLE MODELS!!!
Now, though, I am focused on Government regulations, ALLERGENS, and Food Labeling, for our Chain of stores!
Right there, and making sure your child, with a peanut allergy, isn't going to have a reaction, because our Labels are up to Date, and accurate!!10 Reply- 1.1K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yI wanted to go to culinary school before i left high school. But my mom started telling me i would have to get insurance in case someone got sick at my restaurant and every other idea to deter me. It took me a long time but i realized i can not be afraid of failure or of success. I must do what i must in my life.

+1 yyour question has me stumped Bee i feel like there was something but its not coming to me.
nah if they discoruaged me from doing something it was for a good reason. like "stop wasting so much time playing video games" :P13 Reply- +1 y
you know i just remembered one thing. when i was in college still getting my history degree i was really thinking about switching majors to psychology and become a therapist. but my dad talked me out of it cause it would have meant i'd stay in school much longer.
i feel now maybe i should've gone for it anyways. - +1 y
yeah i think so too. but i made my choice. i do love history but i just have nothing i want to do with it lol
+1 yYeah, they refused to let me become a whore. I had the crack addiction so I thought it would be the next logical step. They didn't want me leaving school before 14 though 🤔
30 ReplyBack when I was 16, I had a 5 speed Chevy Nova with a nicely rebuilt 350 small block picked out, and they vetoed me on it. It ended up being into my 30s by the time I finally got around to picking up a proper RWD stickshift V8.

Hummm... I can't think of any instance where they discouraged me from doing something that would be good for me.10 Reply 1.4K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Not with the intent of hurting me lol. My mother was against me investing because her life didn't exactly go as planned ergo in her mind mine is going to follow the same path and by investing I'm just flushing money down the toilet to her.
My mother does keep me grounded so I am appreciative of her input. But her negativity at times does get hard to bear. Lol00 Reply388 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. I wanted to play the drums as a kid but my mom didn't want that because of the noise. She wanted me to play violin. Otherwise I don't think so.
