**For Me, Ballet Slippers and Ballet Lessons. xxoo
People will call me selfish but I was rub from enjoy my teenage years. I spent my teenage years raising my younger siblings changing daipers , cookung cleaning you know playing the role of a traditional mother while my mom would go out and have fun. As one of the oldest kids my mom said it was my responsibility to raised my younger siblings lets just say I was raised similar like the Duggar kids. I wish I had the guts to be more selfish and left sooner. But I was kick out when I turn 17 in the middle of the semester of junior year in highschool. While other kids were getting in trouble forbsmoking and drink I was getting in trouble because I stole a slice of cheese from my mom's refrigerator. My mom believe that every object that would get inside her house it belong to her. My mom would used food as a form of punishment. Thankfully with the grace of God. I did managed to become financially successful but in order for that to happen I didn't experience my youthful years. I always say its not okay for people to have that many kids and expecting the older kids to take over the responsibility of the parent. At 14 I had my new born baby sister at the time on hip carrying her while I was feeding my at that time 18 month old sibling. People get amgry at me because I said I am only good with two kids and nothing having more. Teenagers are at an age to check out university colleges explorer careers. Not taking after all the work that isnthebparents job.
Ballet dancing
Xx I made the mistake of choosing tip tap dancing instead and as a little girl I didn't realise I had one shot meaning I couldn't do both.
Thank you for the MHO!! Indeed I always had a creative side. The tip tap dancing did help with that and I did enjoy it but I would have liked to try ballet dancing too!! xx
Oh God ! I get a little angry when I read this question , because I was held back by my dam mother , right until around 21 , or maybe even longer , so very many things.
It wasn't so much that I " couldn't " do something , but she just made everything difficult , always throwing in negatives , and just never encouraging. She talked me out of going to the school social when I was 13 or 12 , how utterly stupid is that? She made my sport difficult..
I was offered a job interstate when I was around 20 ( Australia ) , in land projects , I didn't go ! Guess where I ended up making my money when I was 40 ? Land..
I missed 20 years of projects because of her , I get really pissed when I think about that. I'm happy to say , as a parent I was opposite , When my daughter wanted to go work in Vietnam? ( She had no job prior to leaving ) , I said " Go for it " , " You will do great " , and guess what? She did , now she lives in Denmark.
It annoys me that I'm still bitter about all this , but having seen phycologists over the years , and trying to analysis all this stuff , it always came back to her parenting , influence , and manipulation , she was not a good parent , although to those on the outside she may have seemed good.
I was youngest of 5 , 3 of the 5 , have the same feelings as myself.
It does just go to show , never just blindly follow your parents rules , there are numerous decisions that need to be rejected and reversed.
Chicago has many interesting museums, and fortunately, my parents had family memberships to several. That's all to the good, but almost all of them had plastic-injection Mold-A-Rama machines in them, that for two bucks would make you a little plastic ape or dinosaur or statue or whatever it was built to; kind of like a very simplistic 3D printer. They were two freaking dollars, but Mom always said it was too much money.
So when I was living in Evanston (which is immediately north of Chicago and connected to the mass transit lines), I decided one summer day that I was going to get ALL of them- the museums all have a bunch of days where basic admission is free, and since I could get to them cheaply and easily, I'd make a summer of it and get every last Mold-A-Rama figure, because I was a grown-up and Mom couldn't stop me any more.
Since I didn't know how many there were, I got $100 in singles, just to make sure I'd have enough. I realized only as I was leaving the bank that the teller thought I was heading to a strip club, and would never have believed the truth... "No, no, it's not for strippers; it's for cheap plastic dinosaurs!".

So, I was the youngest and thus for some reason was held on a proverbial shorter leash than my older siblings. I wanted to get out of just being home after school. My sibs had cars when in there teens, I didn't learn to drive till I was 17. Before that I had to bike everywhere which even that took some time to let my bike too school rather than the bus. Had to take inch by inch to allow me to go anywhere outside our little neighborhood.
Wasn't all bad though, there are benifets to being the youngest such as all the free hand me downs. And hardly getting in trouble for anything... Well except for pushing my physical boundaries and having to be home by dark less be grounded for being at a friend's house just around the block whom honestly I had a small crush on.
dude I'm the middle kid and I'm almost always grounded about 4 months ago i got grounded for being outside to much and I'm still grounded i have a older sister and a younger sister and they never get in trouble and if they brake something i get blamed for it and have to fix it or just buy a new one
mine also delayed driving. my school not teach drivers ed. my pals drove but mine wouldn't teach until i was 20. i photographed my PERMIT n show people i started late. lol.
many individuals may have experienced restrictions on certain activities during their upbringing. Common scenarios include limited screen time, curfews, or parental rules on socializing. Sometimes, parental concerns stem from a desire to ensure safety or prioritize academic commitments. While these restrictions might have caused frustration at the time, they often reflect parents' efforts to provide guidance and establish boundaries. As individuals mature, understanding the reasoning behind these limitations becomes clearer, fostering appreciation for the values and intentions that shaped their upbringing.
ouch don't paste from a. i., make it like you, not generic. at least edit!
Couple years ago, when I was in the final days of the 9th grade in high school, I was given a sheet where I was to choose my classes for the 10th grade. I filled the sheet out and my teacher told us to keep it until we get to her class period. One of the classes I wanted to take in 10th grade was photography because I wanted to become a photographer. My teacher never told me and my classmates that we had to show our parents the sheet we filled, but I showed them because I wanted them to know what classes I planned to take. They didn't like my choices of classes, including the photography class. I argued with them and then they changed my self-chosen classes. One of the classes my parents chose was computer science which I was never interested in. For arguing and talking back to them, the took my privileges away. I couldn't watch TV and play with my video games. My parents believe that they know what's best for me and it's bullshit that I can't choose what's good for me without my parents being assholes.
I wanted to be a child star. No joke.

Go to college. I did go, but it was a constant struggle being told to get married and settle down instead of pursuing a career. They were pretty mean about the whole thing and they'd cause problems for me by calling my professors on the phone and harassing them.
did they help pay tuition?
@TrueConfection Wow that is crazy! To actually call professors and harass them!
I just can not comprehend why on earth a parent would not want their child to succeed in life. Harassing the professor its sadit escalated to that point.
@strateguy632 Nope
@exitseven Yes, it did.
@ArrowheadSW Yes. A few were angry and one felt sorry for me and took me under his wing like a granddaughter. He was very kind and wanted me to succeed.
@Alwayreckles93 Me either. No one should have to battle their family for an education. Unfortunately, I'm not the only one who has faced that battle.
@TrueConfection That is one of the crazier stories that I've heard regarding an adult child in college! One other nutty one, totally different, was a nineteen year old daughter in college, but she wasn't back in her dorm room every night by 9 PM. Her dad was going to leave at 10 PM one night to make the 3 hour drive to remove his daughter from college because of it. His brother talked him out of it. How nuts. The next school year they made her go to college locally.
Imagine a nutty dad going to "remove" his daughter from college. And just over her "curfew". The next daughter in line went to West Point. The parents couldn't interfere there! LOL
@ArrowheadSW I had a friend who's mother would accompany her to the college library to make sure she wasn't talking to any college guys.
@ArrowheadSW West Point! 🤓 Nice move on her part. I'll bet she felt like she had total freedom compared to life under her dad's roof.
@TrueConfection I would imagine that is part of the reason why she was so motivated to do something that hard core, like going to West Point. Yeah the parents would have zero control of her there. I suspect that she saw how the parents treated her older sister and she said, "forget THAT stuff!"... LOL... I do remember talking to the mom several years ago when that daughter was in her forth year. If you decided to NOT stay with the Army after that, you owed them $250,000 for the education. She told her daughter that "if she is scared and didn't want to be in the Army, that she would pay for it"... Geeschhh a lady going through all of that wouldn't be scared. Needless to say she stayed in.
@ArrowheadSW Amazing! I wish I thought of West Point.
@TrueConfection LOL! Yeah your parents would have been infuriated and they would have wrote your Congressman!
To top it off, a few years after the daughter graduated, she briefly spoke on a National news network regarding something. (She had press training.) The mom's co-worker called the mom and asked if she knew that her daughter was on National news. The mom had no clue, nor did she understand why her daughter would be on the news. As if every household had a military officer daughter. Clueless.
@ArrowheadSW My parents were the same way. I called from my hotel room to tell them about arriving at a big event I was a part of in college and they asked with an annoyed tone, "Why? What for?" My heart sank.
Well I wanted to dance Folklore, and wanted to play Basketball; I wanted to do arts (sculptures with soft river rock, and clay, and paintings) I’m better at pencil drawing, I am better at sculpting soft river rock.
Everything I wanted to do were opposed with some society stigma, or some superstitions. Anyway 🙄😑
I was very much into things that burn or that explode.
Facing the highest resistance from my parents' and grandparents' side, Paris, I was forced to conduct my experiments and research in secrecy.
One made it into the local newspaper - but I could not claim the fame without risking repressions from ''the elders''. So I did not clarify the facts about ''some rare kind of lightning strike''.
Hahah :) - unfortunately, my fellow girls around appreciated my talents in this respect only much later.
Genius comes with a price.
Going to school for photography. I was really good at it in high school. Won awards and sold some pieces. They dissuaded me from going to any art school for fear of not finding a job with it. Unfortunately my dumb ass listened and wasted a good chunk of time lol. One day maybe I'll be interested enough to give it a go again.
I wanted to play Little League baseball, but my parents said they couldn't afford it. So, instead, me and my buddies had pick-up games on the Little League fields when no one else was using them... at least until we got yelled at.
We never had a VCR at home and at every stage of life they made an excuse that THIS is the most important stage of your life.. "focus on studies". I finally bought one of my own from my first 3 months of saving when I started a job after graduating from college.
I am still proud of how they raised me.
Going to parties which I did anyway, going on vacation with friends and their family's and mtv lol
What do I crave now. Haha I crave peace lol
Ballet, gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, ice skating, make up, short skirts, heels. I’m a girly girl and I’ve tried most of these as an adult to heal my inner child and it’s a beautiful feeling ❤️
i let shorts but short mini skirt depends age.
I wanted to get a beehive for the backyard. They wouldn't let me. But it was probably a good idea though to NOT get one, because we didn't live out in the country. The suburbs isn't the best place for one.
I always wanted to go camping with the cub scouts and as a child. The only issue was that I as a black child was never welcome, and there was the risk of not coming back home alive. There were still a lot of white supremacist and clan activity where we lived. My parents said no; they knew what was out there. Even my friends had to be vetted thoroughly.
I was also not allowed to do any sports. As I grew older and started asking more questions; I understood that because of a medical condition I had acquired at birth; I was banned from any activities that would over tire me, or make me excessively angry. These types of activities could put me in an early grave. That condition was cleared by my 23rd birthday. As a very young child, it is hard to understand why you cannot do the same activities as other kids your age.
I wanted to play the flute in band and do taekwondo.
I wasn’t allowed because my sisters did band, gymnastics, taekwondo, and dropped out. They felt like it was a waste of money so they just wouldn’t let me.
Camping
Anything on a computer (although in hindsight I'm grateful for this)
Watch TV, movies, play games etc (also grateful for this in hindsight)
Surfing
Fishing
Swimming lessons
Pets
Play games
Watch movies
Have a sleep over
Read books they don't provide themselves
Live with a different family
Etc.
Oof, Paris there were so many things I wanted to do growing up TBH.. I don't know if I could choose one.. I do remember this one Halloween party I wanted to go to in 2nd grade.. My mother never let me go because we didn't celebrate Halloween.
Sleepovers, Trick or treating, any high school parties
For me it was playing the violin. Instead they introduced me to guitar since it was cheaper to purchase.
I can’t remember such. They always pushed me to get out of comfort zone and do things. They encouraged me to go for what I wanted.
School sports
Halloween (although even now as an adult it's not a big deal to me)
Nerf guns
Riding a dirt bike. I'm more comfortable in a car or truck now. I feel better having metal around me on the roads
Horse riding, my sister got horse riding, I had cricket, rugby
I wanted to go skiing. My best friend used to go with his family. My parents were not athletic and besides it was expensive.
@exitseven how many bones did you break
@Sparkie460 I twisted the shit out of my knee. I skiid for the whole day going full bore down the slope. I wiped out a few time but the bindings let go like they were supposed to. At the end of the day I got on a little incline to practice snowplow and turns. When I fell the bindings did not release and my knee got twisted. My knee was so swollen I could hardly but my pants on.
Yeah that shit ain't for me. I'd end up being a big snowball coming down the mountain
Almost everything.
Imagine having to do everything your damn self at an efficiency of 5%. And that includes being locked behind paywalls while being broke.
One example - I was bullied and I could not fight back. For one, I was starving and weak from starvation. In fact I collapsed of starvation a few times. Second, I need combat school training on fighting back.
Second example - dating. Nobody taught me how to date and how to go get girls and talk to them. I can't figure out why and those (staged) youtube videos are a complete waste of time on top of demoralizing. Even if I found someone they'll judge for anything including being racist.
nothing, they were good parents. We didn’t have much money and I had to become financially responsible at a young age but I’d never say they held me back
You sound super narcissistic
i wanted to practice batting for baseball but couldn't. school baseball traumas.

Can’t say that they held me back. Being raised on a dairy farm. We didn’t go away hardly at all!
Going out after school was over. I always had to be home right away.
Yes, no wonder I turned introvert.
And my brothers were allowed :( and I was sent out to get them back safely

I wanted to go looking for buried treasure!
Indeed!
Why would a parent not let you do ballet?
Are you parents woke or something. I know of a kid whose mother doesn’t want him to do masculine things and pushes him to be more experimental.
Wandering around...
Football ⚽, Driving and dreaming
Computer and TV.
Getting a motorbike 🏍️!
Yes, sure. Me and my buddies went everywhere with bicycles. With motorbikes it would have been cooler, though.
