+1 yI spoke with a mom of a young boy about this recently. She made her son say hello to an adult. She told me she regretted it and apologized to her son for making him do something he felt comfortable doing.
I guess parents don't want their kids to feel uncomfortable. It explains a LOT.01 Reply

When raising a child you need to be two people you need to be their parent and yourself can you see what comes out of your mouth they watch they listen they learn and that's who they become so when you're talking to somebody on the phone are you talking to somebody else and you act rude and you act like a bitch that's who your kids are going to act like that's why some people should just not have kids because they can only think about themselves and that's exactly what the child's doing

m +1 yI do tutor around 50 kids and they're not rude kids... lol
but then again, I am the adult... and in charge, I am the one that is supposed to guide them, lead by example and show them better ways, if needed
none of them are kids of my own, but we're all part of the same community so we can do what we can to help, while we can and when we can do it... not just criticize from a distance00 Reply
I show my manners and am polite to elder people if they deserve it.
Ex A, my classmate has a neighbor who is old and extremely sexist. He questions why her mom drives the car and asks if her husband lets her, and he used to be her momās P. E. Teacher so he would body shame her mom when she was a kid. I wouldnāt show respect for this guy.
But other than that Iām nice to elder people and I very much show my respect. When I say elder people, I mean anyone over 60.00 Reply

+1 yIt's not Western Culture. There's been a trend in the past few decades for parents to be friends to their children and, by doing so, some of the things that earlier generations were taught w/r/t politeness, for example. Also, more recently, there has been a trend towards "me first", which further complicates things.

+1 yI'm from a country in SE Asia and I lived in France for few years. Both countries taught simple and important things about manner since early age.
In France, it is a habit to even greet the bus driver as you get on the bus. Young or old, you just do it.
In my country, younger people would greet elderly by shaking their hand/similar gestures.
I don't think it's a western issue. It's just simply down to good ol' parenting issue.00 Reply
+1 yI noticed it too. Especially on fb. I don't know why but I think it's coz of covid (they spend most time at home) / their parents don't care what they do on the internet. They pretend how brave they are, but I bet they are weak inside. They may don't know how to 'calm' their feelings

+1 yA child's bottom is made for more than just sitting on.
I'm not talking about abuse, only loving and controlled lessons to be remembered :)
There is a right way and a wrong way to do it. The right way teaches, the wrong way creates more rebellion.
Do it the right way :)

+1 yI agree with you, kids and teenagers are so rude these days with no manners. I was raised to speak to my elders first too. My nieces will come over and expect me to say hi to them first. Itās not going to happen and so they wonāt get spoken to from me. Also some of those young cashiers wonāt even say hi back, itās pathetic.

+1 ydamn, i think you think that way because you were raised that way. not everyone is raised to just randomly say hi to people. kids these days are different because the world has changed since your time. society's standards have changed and adults perspective on how to raise their children has also changed. there are definitely some rude ass kids out there no doubt, but for you to label all children as rude because they don't fit your standards is uncalled for.

@ChrisMaster69 i don't think i judge anything too harsh thats what i meant

Oh I meant society at the time of each generation judges kids harshly.
Go back to when Rock and Roll started, When MODS (music) weāre a thing, then Punk, Emo, Goth, New Romantics, Chavs, TikTok, etc etc.
Was not meaning you judging harshly

@TwinkleLily5 what
lack of good parenting, and too many do good doers, it seems that a child can't be disciplined these days, and parent need to know and tell their children things,
take a youngers ages 17 years, 364 days old, comes under the protection of being a child, so no adult can touch them, two days later, they have to fend for themselves and cheek off some people and they end up being in a fight,00 Reply
+1 yI'm pretty sure the every previous generation thinks the current one is worse off than the last. I mean even in biblical times it was legal to stone a rebellious child to death or sell them into slavery. Heck one time a prophet cursed a group of kids to be mauled by bear because they made fun of him for being balled. It's also important to realize that manners are a social construct and as society changes so do what are considered good manners.

Women in general rarely told no in life and become assholes because of it.
Women often are attracted to assholes/douchebag and have children with them.
Kids take on personality traits of their parents.
Congrats, kid is also an asshole.10 ReplyKids were always rude , it's just that they are more courageous and open about it because you can't hit them anymore

+1 yI donāt think itās anything new.
a lot is down to society and poor parenting.
i really donāt think they are any worse than say 10 years ago or when I was a ākidā.00 Replyit's usually lack of social interaction. if not taught, they may not know the basics of interacting and may even come off as rude without their own notice. doesn't mean it applies to all kids, anything could be the reason.
00 ReplyIf I had to guess, ita because of how social media is on top of never growing up knowing much of any consequence from their actions
