"discipline" achieved through hurt is just control through fear. It's not really love maybe and if you want them to see you as someone to fear or someone to counter..
No! It only teaches the child to be violent. I never ever spanked my child and my mother didn't spank me.
Damn straight, it didn't kill me, and it kept me on the straight arrow and I always told my boys if you have to stop and think about what your doing before you do it then there's a damn good chance it's the wrong thing to do
No I don’t think so. Physical harm doesn’t create individuals who learn. It creates individuals who have insecurities.
Obviously the best way to communicate with any human of any age is with dumb blunt force. I mean, how else would humans communicate?
No, if you have to hit a kid then you’ve already lost discipline and control and it’s only goûté negatively affect the child
Wtf? Of course not! Parents give birth to a child and if they don't know how to teach them to be successful in life, it's their responsibility and they don't have the right to treat their children badly.
Using corporal punishment (i. e., spanking) can teach them the lessons they need to be successful in life. And, if you view that as treating them badly, then, yes, I do have that right. And it doesn't mean I don't love them. I do. That's why I tried to teach them right from wrong. If you want to tell people how they should raise their kids, then feel free to take the kids off their hands and deal with raising them.
@SinceYouAsked I understand the huge responsibility of co-creating and raising a human a and I don't think I'm ready to take it. I can't tell you what to do, you have your freedom and you do what you decide to do. What I'm saying is that in my personal opinion, parents are responsible for what they do which is bringing a person to life and shaping their future to a large extent. Love is good and also it's necessary, but to provide an extreme example, if someone decides to give birth to a child while being broke and living in a hostile environment in an island in the middle of nowhere, loving the child can take them only so far. It would be almost impossible for them to move to a better environment, to make friends with better people, and if they want to do it, it would take years and years of hard work. You can scale this example and it'll be easier to see if someone decides to take full responsibility of patenting, they should find the best way to nurture their child not the easiest one. It may need working harder before you give birth to them, or moving to a better place if it's needed, taking classes or doing research on what to eat or don't eat especially for the mom, and what to do and how to treat a child while they're growing up.
Well if they wanna be a little embarrassment, yes.
Be the parent you want and judge me if you like. Sue me if you hate what I'm sayin'.
Parenting has become so weak (especially for fathers these days, since fathers used to rule the house with an iron grip). I think you can clearly see that in the generation of pansy losers running around nowadays.
I don’t think children shouldn’t get beaten or whipped when bad as parents might take it to far where they might get in trouble for child abuse as the laws are strict on it. Children should get a time out or privileges taken away!!
Huge difference between a spanking and physical abuse.
Smack on the hand much like how a mother cat taps a kitten into line when it’s in danger.
Yes. Spare the rod, spoil the child. They HAVE to learn that there ARE consequences for their actions!
No not by a belt. I would say a light smack is enough
Sometimes I got the buckle end of a belt I turned out fine
Police also dont whoop you when youdo something wrong. So unrealistic. Is this also not illegal? Dont have many kids or any kids, if you need to hit them.
Spanking is not illegal and I fear for our society if it becomes illegal. Social structure will break down.
In Europe it is illegal but they exegerate and think every shit is abuse. They do everything to take away a kid from an intact familiy but dont do any shit when a kid gets abused
Is spanking not also something sexual? If you are going to hit, then hittheir arms whatever
Trust me, when I spanked my kids, it was NOT sexual. Nor when my dad spanked me. Yech!
Now, if it were a sexy young woman (to whom I'm NOT related), that's another story.
Yes, this is how my brother and I grew up to respect authority and work hard. Now you have a bunch of entitled wimps
Oh my gosh thank you so much.
Trust me that is no way to get whipped with a belt, I was beaten with my late mom's tong shoe and it was horrible
I always say no but my morals and my actions don’t clash when my emotions get the best of me. I think they should be disciplined but I wouldn’t say harshly with a belt… but having their ass whooped is effective to say the least
It depends on the child, their age, what happened, and how many times they did the same thing. Mild scolding is sufficient for some. For others mild to more harsh spanking may be justified.
I'm against physical violence against children but before you want to give up your legal parent status and sent your brats to orphanage, I would consider this as an option.
Well not with a belt or fist. But a good slap here or there is healthy if they are crossing the line
No. It doesn't work, it hurts the child unnecessarily, and it's illegal, at least in my country.
Yes, I was beaten on several occasions by my parents. And I turned out mostly fine.
If your definition of mostly fine is an individual with a silver of psychopathy.
Nope.
Kids understand when you talk to them.
Just make them understand how things work and show them you believe in them.
No, it just teach them violence is ok and that strong people can use it on weak people to get their ways. It's this way bully are made.
Again - it's NOT violence; it's punishment. Arggghhh!
I'd add that I was spanked as a kid and I was never a bully. I was bullied on occasion. But, back then, you didn't go tell adults about it. My dad would have just told me to stick up for myself and deal with it. And I do not resort to violence to get my way. Guh!
@SinceYouAsked Yea so you're the exception to the rules doesn't prove anything.
And violence and punishment is the same exact things for a child.
Most kids were spanked when I was growing. But not everyone was a bully. So, not exactly the exception. And, yeah, I could definitely tell the difference between violence and a spanking when I was growing up. If kids today can't, it's an indictment of the current mentality.
@SinceYouAsked then your generations was extremely different from today, today kids that experience violence all become bully and no no kids are able to differentiate between violence and punishment, parents just slap their child when they're too lazy and have no authority, their only authority is violence and fear though it never worked on me.
Yes but I believe you should never hit a child in anger this is one of my favorite commercials
https://www.youtube.com/embed/1ZVHBkRaHMsNo, whooping is child abuse. It might curb bad behaviour in the short term but it will likely have undesirable effects out of all proportion the the offence.
Yes. Stern warning. If they do their b. s. again then spank them. If you raise your child correctly you shouldn't have to spank them a lot. They will learn quick what is acceptable and what's not.
Not at all. Teaching children that violence is the right answer in any situation is bad.
If I ever see a child being hurt intentionally, I will make sure they don't do it again.
I have read several posts on this thread confusing punishment with violence. Spanking is NOT violence. It is punishment. HUGE difference.
It is still a physical attack, if I see you attack a child, you will not do it again.
If you interfered with me disciplining my kids you'd have been in jail - or in a hospital. It may be physical, but it is not an attack. And I'd die before I let you take away my parental rights.
You might.
not the bad kind of violence but a slap should do the thing
Imagine this: your child is much bigger and stronger than you. Would you still decide to assault them?
I choose to not physically abuse my children. I find it absolutely disgusting and they should be embarrassed. You’re bigger and your brain is more developed than your child - no excuse to use violence against your child.
Never. All that does is in my opinion really mess up a child. What will they learn from getting whooped apart from being aware of another whoopin if they made the same mistake. I think its better to explain and teach them softly with words.
No violence is absolutely not the answer. Use your words, not force fear of hurting someone.
No, violence*
Words just result in spoiled brats who don't behave and can be obnoxious to those around them. If all kids get is a scolding, they just learn that they can get away with anything.
@SinceYouAsked Yes, talk is cheap. Kids don't reason- logic doesn't apply. The world revolves around them. And discipline is needed to help them understand humility and respect. Gawd, it's no wonder we have so many people who never take responsibility for anything.
Uh no, because that can cause children to develop all kinds of trauma.
no, it is NEVER okay for anyone to hit a child, period.
No, I never hit my kids. I wanted them to grow up non violent.
Depends. A parent calmly spanking a child for direct disobedience is fine.
A parent taking out their frustration and smacking a kid is abuse.
No. I'm not a mother, but if I was, I wouldn't beat my child as a punishment. What kind of discipline is this?
All you’re teaching them is to be scared of you. We should be leaders, not tyrants who rule with fear.
A smack yes, but not with objects. Just the hand.
Some kids these days are so naughty they need a smack
No way. There is other ways to discipline a kid. Hitting a child is abuse and could lead to long term damage
Ugh! And that's why we have entitled, spoiled brats who don't know how to conduct themselves around others. Because we might damage the poor little darlings by giving them a swat on the butt or a paddling for doing wrong. Guh!
I err on the side of no. I won't be doing it to my children.
I had my arse slapped as a kid - never did me any harm!
It isn't about whippings, it is about treating kids like responsible adults. It is RESPECTFUL of their abilities i. e. no one hits a retard
Sounds reasonable. But what if there was a major plot twist and the child actually enjoyed being spanked? Have you ever encountered one who did?
Are you that kind of kid?
@Aakash_Hangargi No, I don’t think I’ve ever been spanked. At least I have no memories of it
I got beat and spanked as a kid but i don't think kids should be but it did teach me but i don't Gree with it.
Although it teaches discipline if you go too far , it can have the opposite effect
White people have such nice lives growing up...
this is another Tuesday in Africa 😏
No I don’t think it is good for the kid at all in the long run
no and fuck those parents that do. They should get whiped themselfs, see how they like it
not, that causes low. self esteem. Well it did for me anyway
Depends on what they did. The punishment should fit the crime so to speak. So getting whooped should be saved for when the child says or does something too sjw.
Never, under no circumstances that should happen. The parents deserve the whipping before the kids.
I’m waiting to see the stupid comment: I was beaten up and I turned up ok 🤦♂️
I agree with you.
It depends what happens if he’s bullying the neighbors for example there needs to be disciplin
@NYlatefun you are a dummy
There are better ways to punish a kid then doing that
These comments are hilarious. And then you wonder why so many kids act like hard asses and aren't afraid of their parents. Pussified generation
i think it can be a helpful parenting tool if done right. But I stopped getting spanked when I started getting turned on from it, so there's that.
Absolutely not this is child abuse in in many places it's illegal as well
light spanking yes. But light spanking leads to more.
No.
I was spanked as a child & all that taught me was not to get caught.
A spank is okay in my book, but beating a child with a belt is absolutely not.
