Should I give my friend some space if he is acting distant?

My online friend has been acting distant lately. I know that it's probably because he is busy (don't want to get into details), but I'm aware that he has been online lately. He sometimes posts and comments on social medias and replies to my message once a day only (but we can't get pop up notifications on that website)

I'm not sure if this distance is personal or not, but he has recently replied to my messages as if nothing happened... but he does seem a bit distant.

Should I give my friend some space if they are acting distant? Like, let him complete whatever he's doing or simply wait 'till he feels better? I'm almost 99% sure that he will reach out to me if I don't send any text within the next 3 days (other than replies).

My friend seems to care about me and our friendship (he even proved it lately), but the fact that he is acting a bit distant is hurting me right now. I hope I didn't do anything wrong... I'm not sure if he is avoiding my messages/delaying his replies on purpose :(
