It should be okay to give him a "leaning-in hug" but not a full-body embracing hug.

Ask his girlfriend what you can do to make their stay more comfortable. She needs to sense that she is not just a tag-along or an afterthought but equally important to you. And, obviously, don't suggest doing anything that would not include her.
