Trending & News Easily my dad. Still is lol My mom was the authoritative disciplinarian. I didn't understand her really until I was an older adolescent and young adult. My dad is just way more laid back, a goofball, likes things kids can relate to and just likes kids in general I think. He liked those activities more when I was young - he doesn't play video games anymore, for example, but he used to go to the arcade at the mall with his friends and I would come along and watch, wander, and they let me play a bit too lol We would play video games together at home, watch some sci fi action tv shows / movies together, etc. Dad was definitely one of my best friends as a kid. He also had a hard time saying No to me, so I was kind of spoiled by him. He was also more socially engaged - he would go play basketball with his friends when I was a kid, he'd go to my elementary school and play with the dads there, and he brought ice cream cakes from the restaurant he used to manage to my classes for birthdays and stuff. I went with him to work in the mornings before school and hung out there, I liked watching him work and was with him a lot, especially when my mom was in grad school - dad had to pick me up too and he had that flexibility as the manager. Definitely my dad.
I can't really make a vote but I will try my best to explain. My parents were separated and my dad was pretty nonexistent for most of my childhood because he chose alcohol over me. With that said, when my dad did take me, he would be plastered (my grandmother was always there) so he would bring me out fishing or let me help him skin deer/filet the fish we caught and it was always such a damn good time. He would also do really stupid, kind of dangerous stuff to get me to laugh. Like taking those muscle relaxing pads (the ones hooked up to those small machine looking type things) and put them on his temples and turn it on full blast because I thought it was hilarious seeing him twitch like he was having a seizure. I realize now how dangerous it was but as a kid, I thought it was a riot. I truly do not have any bad memories hanging out with my father, despite him always being drunk when we hung out.
My mom on the other hand was also super fun. She didn't drink or anything like that and we grew up poor but she made the absolute best out of it. She used to constantly bring us out exploring old abandoned buildings and brought us to the beach to collect shells at least once a week or even sometimes just brought us out late night driving, just because. Some mornings she would wake me up at like 5am to go drink coffee with her in the kitchen and play skip bo while listening to 97.9 on full blast because she couldn't sleep. She didn't even like that music but she knew I did.
My childhood has a lot of sad memories and I have tuned out most of it. But those good memories, they are still in my head like it happened yesterday despite it being over 10 years ago. My parents made the best out of shitty situations and they were so great.
My parents were dull. My oldest brother (12 years older) was the fun one. Everything from surfing to shooting. He even gave me the drug talk. He said something to the effect of “I know you’re exposed to stuff, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it can be dangerous. I don’t recommend that you do the crazy shit I did when I was your age (and that I still do to this day), but if you want to try something, try it with me. I’ll make sure you’re not doing anything dangerous. I completed respected him for that. The only drug I was curious about was cocaine (I grew up in the 80’s and EVERYONE did coke. My brother gave me some to try. I liked it so much that I decided to never do it again. I didn’t want to fall down the rabbit while that I’d seen others drop into. He provided a safe environment and taught me a lot of stuff from his own personal experiences.
Mother. She is very protective, guardian Angel, my first love, my first friend, my first teacher, my first boundary limit setter, my shield, my goddess, she donated her blood as food for while, she wiped my tears, she showed me affection, she promised and showed that iam fine and safe in her hands, she turned me big, nurture me, loved me, she is my first friend, she was my lullaby, she was my strength, she was my weak. 😭 💔 she definitely a gift. I’d like to be her child again and again and I want her to show my love in return and want her to be born as my baby again.
I don't understand why you guys always put mommy first. I had an ex like you that choose his mother over me.
I mean, she was the one who birthed him and raised him. Did you do all that for him? Dont think so. Yes, girlfriends and wives are really great people, but no human love is stronger than a mom's (and dad's) love.
If your partner told you to choose between him and your parents, I think you would also be more likely to choose your dad and mom (assuming you were a strong family).
Also, girlfriends and wives who love their man unconditionally are findable, but not all of them are like that. Parents on the other hand, are most likely to love you unconditionally. Assuming you are not a convict.
Actually honestly I would choose my fiance over my parents. Both of my parents weren't that great long story.
If my fiance /Future husband ask me to shunned my parents because they are horrible to him I would. Sorry but my fiance will always come first and always will be first.
@Paul09 Thanks for helping me understood the question. “Mom is fun”
@Alwayreckless93 this not about choosing one person over the other. Definitely mother has her role and all the things I’ve mentioned, comes in her role she is fun to get along. A girl friend/boyfriend has her role and can be switched. No girlfriend didn’t raised her boyfriend surely like their mothers did. If you have difficultly in getting along with a man, you’ll find another Boyfriend. Mothers aren’t like that. Can any 20 year old man/girl say “mom I don’t like your mothership and I’m not happy, my friend’s mom is doing better than you in her role, now I’ll break up with you and get along with someone else?” Can any 20 year old do that after belo average to exceptional parenting.
Bad parenting might happen.
Mother has her role and girl friend has her role.
Depends on one’s life and strength of the bond, and strength of the relationship. One will choose what is important to them.
You were his girl and he might felt connection between you and him is weaker than connection between him and his mother. So I don’t see any wrong in him choosing his mother over you. No offence. You’d do the same when you have good connection with Someone. Everyone would do the same.
If you see not everyone’s response is same because in others case Dad might be hero. Here in my case my both parents are Hero’s of my life and If choose my Mother over my dad.
Because she is more friendly and fun to get along.
Dad is strict and the lord and Master of the family and he protected us in his power and did his job in his best knowledge.
It’s different in every case is my understanding.
The two of you were privilege to have such great parents. My mom only care about her self and her needs while I was stuck raising my younger siblings since age 11. That whole oh it was your job to help. No I didn't tell my mom to have a whole fucking daycare. I was the one cleaning because my mom would never clean I was physically abusive. My parents divorced my dad got remarried right away and left my siblings and I with my mom. That whole oh you need to respect your parents NO! Give respect you earn respect. I don't have to respect that bitch.

Definitely dad. He'd sneak us chips and sweets. Whenever we went to the carnival he would ride the rides with us and hype us up.
His best friend owned a limousine service and he'd let us invite our friends and drive us around.
He's the one who took us to the parks, taught us how to ride our bikes, bake cakes, and took us with him when walking our dog. He'd blast the music and sing "girl songs" with us...
My dad was a fucking blast. I adore him.
Unfortunately I didn't have any fun parent growing up. I grew up in an extremely strict household. I wasn't allowed to say no to anything. Didn't have any birthdays, any friends over, I wasn't allowed to go to my friends house either. The only "fun" thing is that we'd go to a resort for 10 days every summer, but my parents forced me to do things and not just enjoy the vacation. If I said I didn't want to swim, or didn't want to take a picture, my dad would freak out and yell at me and not talk to me for days.
XJeremyx See not everyone has loving parents like you did. So be thankful.
I always looked for the father/mother figure in learning and guidance from everywhere else. This is due to an ADHD diagnose ar the age of 5 that guaranteed my parents to raise me to believe normal schools, normal jobs are not for me. My place is in therapy and welfare, or in the most easiest jobs on earth.
This parenting made me feel inferior to popular and pretty girls of my age.
Bro, you need to get out from under that. I have major ADHD and I grew up when everyone just thought ADHD kids were either lazy or stupid. I have had a lot of success (and failure) in life, both of which I can attribute to my ADHD (and strong work ethic). The answer is to find a job that lets your ADHD run wild to your advantage. I can't tell you what that is but I know that job is out there. If you can find a career to "hyper focus" on, you will be a powerful force. If I can do it, you can.
Dad was physically present but he never spent much time with us as kids. Seems like he got married wirgout doing some self development and got "stuck". So it was Mom who took us out frequently and attended most activities. Dad was once every few months type of thing
My dad might not have be home because of work travels but he almost always participated with our activities when he's around.
My may have always been there for me but she was such a nag.
My *mom may have always been there for me but she was such a nag.
Both were fun but in different ways.
My pops was the funny one who joked all the time, but not a big fan of going places, so at home he was fun.
My momma was the one that took us to all the fun places, and loved planning fun family events.
No one because both my parents are in serious and that mature side where they can't take certain jokes well but I find my dad more chill and cool type.
Yes especially East-South Asian and I guess Hispanic as well.
Well yeah it became less stricter, our grandparents used to be way more cruel to my parents and my parents are load more chill and open compared to them but still very mature to take jokes or use social media and stuff (my mother's sisters are not like that though, they are open and cool). They believe in studies, hardwork and success. When my generation people are parents then there won't be anything like strictness, parenting is getting better by generation because the generation faced all the bad qualities of certain level of strictness.
Oh wait... Oh my sorry if you felt that way, I actually thought you were around 30 or something but then I checked your profile, you're 22. You would have been of another generation if you were 30 years younger or elder than me. Sorry for the mistake but yeah my point stays the same, as generation passes, parenting becomes better for experience.
My dad which I got from him. He always make the serious time into somewhat fun aura always so we're a jolly and born optimistics because of my Dad.
y'all got a fun parent growing up? i mean sure each had times of fun and all but neither of my parents were fun. also was equal with other parental figures.
Me. My ex husband is funny too but he is also more serious when it comes to discipline. I’m more hands off.
Hahaha…that’s how most family functions.
I am just more laid back and hands off.
Probably my dad. We do more activities together. We are guys so we have more in common when it comes to interest.
My dad. He always played with us, was always active with us. Played hockey out front with us. Went jogging together. I mostly likely a active person because of him. And I'm so grateful for that.
Both had their fun moments, I would say my dad made us all laugh a lot when he was alive.
Mum when I was a kid, but dad now that I’m an adult.
It was the other way around for me, mum let me do and try new things in a controlled environment, whereas dad was very strict and overprotective. But as I’ve become independent and grown up, my dad has let go of the protectiveness and started treating me as a friend rather than someone he has to protect from the world.
When he was around, or in a good mood, it was dad!! 🥺❤️
My brother. My Dad was not fun at all, and we all feared him. My mother did too, and so my brother was really the fun one who took us to places my sister and I had fun at.
I had to be the disciplinarian because Mom was the one that allowed stuff to happen that shouldn't. Nothing terrible but the kids knew they could get by with it with her.
My uncles, they always competed for the favorite uncle status.
My dad but it is sometimes to the point where it makes me cringe inside. I'm more of my mom than my dad.
Fun?
What is fun?
Just kidding!
My mom and dad were equally fun in their own ways.
Both were and are chill af and i could open up to them
My Mom by far as my Dad was emotionally separated from Family...
None of my parents was a fun parent, I had my siblings for that.
I'mma be real honest with you, we (the kids) were the lit ones, either constantly giving our parents new ideas, tips, cultural experience, and just taking them out of their comfort zone.
I guess you could say my dad since my mom was so serious. Other people would tell me how funny my dad was even though I found him embarrassing lol. They would think he was joking but I knew he wasn’t. Looking back I now find humor in his cookiness.
Technically, dad, when he wasn't screaming at yelling at me for shit I never did.
My aunr, she is very funny and makes everyone laugh
Always have been dad. Me and him have done a lot of fun stuff and when he needs any help, I am the first he calls out of me and my siblings
both... but they have a bit of different styles, and often the fun was with both
I don't know. my parents got divorced when i was young. they put me through their separation, thinking things would get better, and then just eventually divorced. so i guess neither.
That sux man. 😔
WTF? There's no "VOTE D"? I'm feeling jilted yet again.
The old man. 81 years and still talks mad shit!
Hmm what would you consider more fun psychosis or suicide?
Psychosis
With some hint of truth eh?
@Aakash_Hangargi hint? It's the full truth
I see , but you didn't tell who is who?
@Aakash_Hangargi mom psychosis
My dad has always been the fun parent, and the strict parent.
My dad was a very strict parent, and my mom was slightly less strict.
My favorite aunt.
My dad is absolutely the fun parent lol
Mum, for the most part.
My father was
Me, the elder sister
Oh my dad by far
My maternal grandfather
They both were in different ways
Still are in my moms case. My dad doesn’t live with us anymore.
Thank you dude
My big Cousin Tj
Dad. If he was given the chance.
Mum's the boss
I hope not.
my daddy
I was the fun Dad, my Dad was a mean prick
Me, of course :)
My mom
Neither parent was any fun.
My cousin. 🤷🏻♀️
Boy what
He took care of me? How is that difficult to understand Lmfao
This boy just doesn't get it.
Well maybe not all of us were lucky enough to have good parents like you did.
You haven't been out much now have you?
Lyndsielee666 how old was your cousin at that time?
I reckon I have seen my fair share. I am painfully aware that there are many people who lack the good parenting I grew up with. I have seen two young girls lose their father to a traffic accident. I have seen a young boy lose his dad suddenly due to heart ailments. I have seen parents so nonexistent that their children grew up craving love from a parental figure they never had. I have seen families torn apart because of cheating. I have seen parents so unreasonable that their children get bruised and battered from caning. These all happened to people who I knew, and who were close to me. I had to offer support to some of these people as well.
I know it is possible for another extended family member to take on the role as caregiver and parent. But cousins filling that role are rare given that most of them are not old enough.
Im sorry that my earlier comments came across as insensitive. I did not mean them that way. I guess today I learned something new then.
@Alwayreckles93 I was five my cousin was ten. I lived with his mom and dad but ones a cop and the others a doctor so they were never home. Me and my cousin are still best friends, dudes always been like my brother.
XJeremyx Well you should be thankful and appreciative that you had the privilege to end up with good loving parents. In her case and mine we both had shitty parents and you have no idea how that affects us! In my case my aunt raised me she was 16 at that time when I was a baby still now we are closed. My mom only care about her self as long as her needs are taken care of she can care less about me. My parents drank had an alcoholic problem. My mom we are always at each other throats screaming insulting me calling me names. Mind you I have ADHD and didn't get diagnosed only I was 27 I am 30 now. My mom would go out and I was stuck raising my younger siblings. Just because you were privilege to have such great parents doesn't mean everyone else get to have great parents. I can relate to Lyndsielee666.
Lyndseylee666 Honestly you deserve better parents. My respects for you're cousin he is truly a hero. I am sick and tired of people always taking parents side that whole oh you should respect your parents no matter what is the most narcissist thing I ever heard people say. Just because they were are parents I believe they don't deserve respect when parents were shitty people to us.
@Alwaysreckles93 you are right. Some parents are trash. I am indeed lucky.
But please stop telling me I am not thankful enough for my parents. I understand that not everyone has good parents, but how am I supposed to know who does and who doesn't? Yes it was my fault I assumed you both did, and I fully admit that. But please stop painting me like a bad guy. I am trying to be empathetic, I really am.
Yes, I will never understand how having shitty parents affects a person, but that does not take away my right to ask and clear up misconceptions about this stuff. The whole reason I responded like that in the first place was because I was not able to understand how a cousin could take care of their cousin, because I have never heard or seen this before. Yes, it was ignorant of me to assume that cousins generally cannot take care of their cousins, but although my language and expression came across as doubtful and disrespectful, I did not mean for it to be in that way.
I should and will take more care approaching matters like this, and I hope any offense that has been unintentionally incurred can be amicably resolved.
So please stop calling me out... 😶
Neither of my parents
Neither
Dad was.
no one
My mom was mostly
Neither
They should have made an effort to be fun for you. Its an integral part of growing up. My own papa did not really have a routine with me when I was a kid, and I felt that he was so tied up at work that he was distant. But now I know better, i guess. It was not for lack of trying. I recently got into fishkeeping, which is my dad's hobby, so we can find something to connect through.
Dad anyday.
Both are
My dad
