My uncle adopted me when I was 13, I show my love and appreciation for what he did for me day. If it wasn't for him I probably would have ended up in a foster home. He chose to take me out of an abusive situation with my sister and mother. I see it differently than if he was my dad taking care of his child. My uncle didn't have to adopt me he CHOSE to and for that I will always be grateful. What he did I probably can never repay him for that, other than just show him how much I love him and appreciate him for giving me a second chance. I think I show him that everyday by studying hard at college. He's not only my uncle, to me he'll always be my hero ❤️ How do fully you repay that kind of love?

I mean.. it's their job as a parent to raise their child lol.

In general, I don't think someone has to "pay back" their parents for doing what they are supposed to do.

I do love and adore my parents and plan to be there for them whenever possible. Everything that's mine is theirs as well 🤷🏾‍♀️ Even as an adult they still spoil me and shower me with love, so of course I'd like to do the same. It's a continuous flow. There's no one thing i can do for "pay back"

Yeah, pretty much. Of course, not with money. I paid them back by not drinking myself to become a vegetable and made sure that knocking at our patio door was not an animal and called the police just in case. (it was not a raccoon, as the dumb officer said, it was a human and could have been a threat)

Yes, absolutely. When my dad was diagnosed with vascular dementia. I went back home to help care for him, until he had to into a care home for the last few months of his life. Then I looked after my mom, until she could come to terms with our loss, but sadly she passed away a few months later from a broken heart.

by being better than they raised me to be... or so they say

but, nowadays with all of us (three brothers) being grown-up, we just look out for another, so we really do not pay back, that's not exactly our way, we pay forward... we focus on our younger ones

I mean I don't have to but I guess I kinda did... I had to pay the state, to not inherit my fathers debts and I paid a few debts off from my mom and raised my younger sister for her, plus half of the costs of that little kid... she owes me a few things and years lol

I don’t think you have to pay your parents back they’re the ones that choose to brought you into the world. But I think you have to respect them, my mother has dementia she can no longer be by herself, so my brother and I moved in and we take care of her now. She’s like a little girl now but with no short term memory at all. So if that’s not paying my mom back I don’t know what is

If paying back means having a full time career, being completely self sufficient, then sure. But my parents have made a full circle and now want me to be a stay at home vegetable living in their basement, mowing their lawn and buying their groceries.

Whole life growing up was "you're out of the house by 18 or else". And when I actually acheived that its now "you're a dick for leaving us behind".

At least mom. There wasn't much to do for dad or, there WAS but, I didn't know it until the day he died! Thankfully, I put that new info to good use with mom and it helped her a LOT!! Otherwise, I gave up my life the last few years of hers to help her as much as possible. Thanks to my ex-sisters, I got shit on for it and they got all the "rewards"!!

How could anyone can? How could someone quantify the amount of years of complete devotion, time, love and money that prepared me for life. My parents are wonderful and still offer their sage advice to this day. That debt could never be completely eradicated. The best I can do is let them know I appreciate them and try to make their efforts for me don’t go in vain

You don't pay your parents back you pay it forward by carrying forth the family line and giving them grand kids.

Frankly you own the same to your sociality, and people who refuse to should be taxed at a much higher rate to help support those who did.

I am being nice to them. I pay for stuff sometimes. But I won't forgive them for bringing me to life. I secretly hate them because of that. My hands are tied now I can't just go ahead and suicide. I have to experience this torture of life just because they wished for it

Pay back for what. I didn’t choose to be born they chose for me. If the question is do I and have I helped my parents like they would help me if I needed it then yes. But paying them back isn’t required.

AND, you had no saying in whether or not you approve either, since you were not yet born at that time.

Did I ask my parents to give me birth?

It was their decision. They did not even have my consent.

I want my compensation from my parent for bringing me to this world. Coz I didn't ask for it.

If you think kids are burden then don't have it!
