Why are some people content living in filthy homes?

I never understood this, but when I go to my friends house as I don't want to go inside because it's filthy, 3 dogs and 1 cat jumping all over the place. He has 2 kids and a wife and they have their computers setup in the living room etc... Blinds are always down you never see the sun in their main living room. I have often wondered how can people stand for living in such filthy conditions as I don't know their socialist views are probably tuned to it maybe?

Some times I have him over for a visit but my house is clean compared to his.

I just never understood this, why are some human's happy living in their own shit?

I wonder if someone is truly happy or Used to it. Either way. To have something you can comfortably call home should be something to be happy about.

okay okay, look that's great and everything but living in your own shit is normal? Yeah I have a home and it's clean because I clean it but I just don't understand how people enjoy living in their own shit.

Been reading online and it would seem that filthy homes usual mean some form of mental illness.
