My bf’s mom didn’t mean this in a bad way right?

I was talking to her about how I’m working inside a warehouse right now and she told me (her son’s name) is lucky because he has the potential to get a good job but he doesn’t do it and his dad and her choose not to tell him anything. I felt kind of bad all that I could think of was telling her that I am in college right now and that’s all I said. I know that I don’t have as much potential as him because my social anxiety has become like a huge disability at this point I’m still trying in life.

So... I'm going to operate under the assumption that she didn't mean it in a bad way and I think you should too. I think that she said what she said in a thoughtless way but I don't think it was meant to be mean.

Here's the thing you should focus on: you have a job and you're working despite what sound like some challenges. Be proud of yourself for what you're doing and what you've accomplished. Please please please don't compare your potential to his or to anyone else. You're you. Live up to your potential. Accomplish what you can accomplish. Wake up, look in the mirror and say I am an adult, I am responsible, I am working. You're already WAAAAAAAAY ahead of a lot of people. Be proud of that.

It’s a 14 dollar an hour job and all I wanted to do was get a customer service/ office job but they won’t even give me a chance. I’m worried that I’m working on a bachelors for nothing. Also I’m out of college this semester because I didn’t have enough money to pay them :(. I know that I’m not smart and I’m slower than others due to my lack of confidence and anxiety but I still try to work.

I really doubt she meant it in a hurtful way. You're in college and you have a job. That's a lot more than a lot of young adults today are doing. Maybe you're not smarter than others but you are trying your best, that's what counts. I give you a lot of credit for being able to face your problem every day and still keep it together.
