My parents made the decision to close my social media accounts and confiscate my phone, and it feels like my entire summer has been ruined. The reason behind their decision was my constant comparison of myself to the flawless models on Instagram, which was negatively impacting my self-esteem due to my own weight problems... I can't help but wonder, do my parents have the right to do this?

+1 yI have a 16 yr. old. She got into some f***ed mess with her phone/social media crap from 8-10…because daddy is a tech geek and allowed her to have free access to her phone. She came to us at 10… took us 5 years to undo and rebuild her self worth.
we never took her phone away…kids should only need a flip phone if it’s up to me…
They don’t need social media to grow…till around 16-18…
I spent everyday/time/moment teaching her to work on her inner beauty (she is very pretty not because she is my daughter) but I never told her she is pretty…I worked with her to build her inner beauty…not she has both and pretty smart in school and making good friends and good life decisions.
i just saw your profile picture…you look like an angry kid… I am so sorry your parents are struggling to raise you in their F***ed society.
Go sit down and talk to your parents about how to be kind to yourself and how to live your self … not what those clowns look like in social media.
way back… women did the same with those model magazines… those are it realistic.

+1 yOf course they are, and I have to say, sounds like they've tried other things before, like actually talking to you, but I also remember what it was like being a teenager and only talking doesn't really do much, especially if your parent's aren't that good at it.
This is their way of trying to further you apart from the crap you're watching, and I have to say it sounds understandable to me.
Yes, you can see those images elsewhere, but they'll be much less prominent and further away from your immediate reach. And that is a plus.
Teenagers often have obsessive personalities - they're just trying to help you as best as they can.
Try to relax a bit more, maybe try guided meditations.

Thank you for the MHO and I hope you feel much more like yourself soon enough. :)
The less others influence your self-image the more authentic and self-loving you'll become, and that's really what it's all about.
+1 yThey absolutely have the right, you are still a minor, regardless how you feel about that. Your parents love you, and only want the best for you. They see a problem building inside you, and arr trying to stop it. Moat people on social media are fake. They want you to think their life is perfect and great. And half the time it isn't. The young generation and even older generation look up to people on social media, while that person has done nothing in their life's to be a role model, Just because they become famous for having a million views. It is sad the level of pressure women put on themselves. And to be honest, I prefer women that are more Natural, yes I do like nails done. But I like little to no make up. I have see girls loom horrible with to much make up. Probably clogs all their skin pools. You should stop looking up to Instagram models, and just be your yourself, that is what I would tell my daughter when she gets older.

+1 yYou're trolling right?
Sometimes I have a hard time recognizing the real thing for someone pretending to be a thing.
If you're for real and have all those issues at 16... fuck your stupid summer, ya feel me? I hope you understand instead of being all mad at me and shit. It's for your own good.
65 Reply- +1 y
She is not trolling, most chicks on this site are not trolling when they say they are jealous of some stupid models. As a guy I have a hard time understanding how it's even possible but apparently the social media jealousy is a big thing for women.
@izzyisabella the worst thing for your summer is the thing that steals your attention. What's the point of a good summer if you're not mentally there to enjoy it, but are stuck on the phone?
Also know that models are very often fucking ugly and unattractive. When we talk about celebrities they're all gayly androgynous, like some sort of illuminati trannies. When regular people seem to have it better than you, well that just proves that whatever they have is within your reach so you're almost there. If it's about beauty, then trends are often disgusting - males listen to their biological urges, and the most attractive part of a woman is the one that you're naturally born with. If you mentioned weight then you already have some progress with weightloss, and honestly a woman who used to be overweight and is becoming in-shape is sexier than someone who was always lucky to be in shape and never changed anything.
In worst case you can use the internet comparisons in a positive way, compare yourself to very unlucky people, with exaggerated issues that you have and feel lucky that you're not that cursed. - +1 y
Word right there... I've seen Belle Delphine without makeup.
Not only is she too old for me now... that's not bangable stuff. The average barely legal is better quality.
Average at best. - +1 y
They believe that by closing my social media accounts and confiscating my phone, they have eliminated the source of my constant comparisons to models. However, what they fail to understand is that the images of these seemingly flawless individuals are not solely confined to social media platforms. I still encounter them on television, billboards, and various other forms of media
- +1 y
It never ends. The reason many of these models constantly post it on social media is exactly to fish for compliments because they are just as insecure.
Meanwhile most guys use their testicles to see and not their eyes, and don't see what's all the comparing about when both females are equally bangable. - +1 y
I am literally following you after this opinion. Very poignant.

+1 yAbsolutely they have every right to do what they did. You are a child and they are doing what is best. This is why no child should ever be allowed to create any social media accounts because it f's kids like you over.
You are so blinded that you can't even see how much editing is used on those photos that are posted or the filters these models use either. If you saw the real them without the filters and editing tools I guarantee you will see they have pimples on their faces and that their skin is nowhere near as flawless as you think it is.
31 Reply- +1 y
You forgot one thing. It's the person not the media. Why not focus on educating children instead of depriving them?
+1 yLegally, yes.
That aside, they’re just trying to look out for you. With social media, a lot of peoples insecurities get heightened because of these false expectations and images that we see all over it. Every single body is different and sometimes that’s not recognized, especially on social media. Now I’m not saying that social media is all bad. There’s good sides to it too, but social media can be detrimental to young peoples self esteem. I saw it a lot when I was in high school and middle school and I still see it now in college. A lot of my friends made the decision to delete things like Snapchat or Instagram from their phones and their mental state became a lot more stable afterwards. Your parents just want the same for you and want you to see how beautiful you are on the inside and outside.00 ReplyDo they have the right? Yes.
Should they? I don't believe they should.
If they did it for the reason you you said, their intent may have been good but this is a TERRIBLE way of doing it.
I'd never do that as a parent.
Really sorry you're dealing with this -- it sucks.24 Reply- +1 y
What do you think her parents should do to help her?
- +1 y
I think parents can create a use schedule or articulate what their specific concerns are or emplace other controls. But scorched earth isolates kids from other kids -- that's bad. All my interaction with my kids and their friends and those families and the kids I work with tells me that isolating them from their phones, computers, social media, etc , in totality doesn't work. And instead it makes the kids angry so they lose sight of whatever it is the parents are trying to teach.
- +1 y
Exactly…I kinda raised my little sister. I met all her friends. Friends parents.
Same with my daughter…her friends come over…we meet the parents.. we talk…we are involved in their life. We are open to talk about anything.
Kids don’t just hid in their rooms.

+1 yYeah unfortunately but they could've just made a proper discussion with you if you're so insecure about yourself. Parents are suppose to guide the new generations not deprive them with their own changing era otherwise they'd just be left behind.
111 Reply- +1 y
Her parents aren't depriving her of anything. Clearly social media and using her phone is affecting her so the parents done what was best. If her parents ignored that shit chances are the girl would have probably ended up starving herself or ending up severely depressed
- +1 y
@GoingNooWhere Actually the world is changing and it has become the digital era. Why would you blame social media? You're blaming an inanimate object. You don't blame guns when people shoot each other do you?
- +1 y
It doesn't matter if it is a digital era. social media is to blame because social media allows people to upload photos that have a bunch of filters that have been used and a lot of editing done. This alone leave people like this girl to believe these people have flawless skin when they don't. At least in one country they have made it illegal for people to upload any photo that has any kind of filter in it because of the negative effects it has on girls.
Yes guns do kill people but are you forgetting it ks
Is the person who picks the gun up and it's the person who pulls the trigger so the person is the one who killed in the end. Gun can't pull their own trigger can they.
Either way her parents had every damn right to do what they did especially if they are the one who paid for the phone and they are paying her phone bill and they are the ones also paying for internet. - +1 y
@GoingNooWhere You're still blaming it on inanimate objects you know and it's not different from just blaming the weapon not the person. To become a parent, there are things that you should expect to happen in this modern world and it's their responsibility to guide them into this new world not the social media's fault. A wise kid getting a proper guidance from amazing parents can have social medias but are self aware who knows their limit. Because again, it's the person, not the media.
I said unfortunately, they do have the rights. Read the first words I said. - +1 y
Also just because you have the rights doesn't mean it should be forced. Sure the internet and social media isn't the child's rights but every child has the rights to be educated. Forcing your rights into your child means you're sacrificing their rights to learn without your guidance.
- +1 y
Depriving them on something that's a norm to their generation means you're teaching your children be obsolete thus removing their rights to be educated. Sure there are bad trends but every generation isn't perfect including ours so we try to get them to learn the best ones.
- +1 y
I myself have an Instagram that has only 115 followers who so for has many random pictures I just like to take and I don't even upload like daily or even weekly. I only upload when I feel like it. Only getting 2 or no likes every time but guess what? IDGAF. So how come it's not affecting me? It's not the social media being ineffective. It's just me being wise and self aware and I stick to just certain media for posting certain things so I have no TikTok, Twitter, Thumbler, SnapChat and Etc. I use Facebook and Discord for just communication, Instagram for some sort of a memory album and Youtube to upload my creative music. And if my kids think the same way I do at a younger age, Maybe they won't need to have social medias even if they're allowed to do so.
- +1 y
@izzyisabella Also, *Hugs* Good luck with your summer tho.
- +1 y
@Aiko_E_Lara thank you!
- +1 y
You can use SM and phone and overall internet to learn a fuck ton of useful information in a short period of time. It can still be a source of depression simply because you're using it indoors all the time, exposed to EMF and not moving your body, and for most people it's combined with bad food. That by itself is a source of depression and sadness.
And there's also lots of marketing bullshit, like so many guys think you can't build muscle unless you consume protein powder. That's just fucking insane really, especially considering how non anabolic the amino acid profile of most powders is and all the artificial sweeteners and toxin residue. But people believe it. But how about we eat nutrient dense foods that we evolved eating and growing muscles with? The point here is brainwashing. So I can imagine it to be similar for women, you are brainwashed that skinny skeleton trannies are hot, perhaps women are attracted to these models more than men are because of how masculine these models are. But unless they buy their shit, they can't be attractive, right? Just like you can't be strong unless you buy their stupid protein powder, right? - +1 y
Well yeah everything has side effects or should i just say too much of anything is not good. So it is the persons responsibility to know their limit and be self aware. It's also just like saying money is evil because it can cause greed. While can be true, it doesn't affect someone who's just responsible so that doesn't mean you should stop earning money.
+1 yyes izzy they sure do and i can't say im completely against the idea because it seems like a good cause if you are comparing yourself to models just ruining your self esteem, considering most models dont look like that and they use photoshopping and many other tenchiques to look that way, its somewhat unhealthy to compare yourself to them, sorry about your ruined summer tho 😆🤣
1107 Reply- +1 y
It may be their parents rights to take away her social media but by doing so, they are taking away their rights to be educated so that means they are teaching children to become someone who's obsolete in the modern world making them left behind. When making children, they should know what to expect about the changes in the new generations otherwise they are just not ready. You know, it's the parents responsibility to keep their child's confidence healthy by showing love, support and guidance and social media has nothing to do with that. You are blaming social media which is an inanimate object. You don't blame guns when there's mass shooting going on, you blame the person. And it would it be any different if you just blame the person like the parents instead of blaming it on the media. A wise kid with social media wouldn't care about likes and followers and may not care about making any social media even if they are allowed to do so.
- +1 y
eehh okay
- +1 y
You still have a lot to learn
- +1 y
no i dont, you would make a bad parent, the media is destructive, and even tho it has its good sides, everyone uses it for the destructive things, and if she's letting her self esteem being destroyed from the media then her parents made the right decision, i recommend you stop kissing ass and look at the reality, safety comes first and rn her mental state is being destroyed by social media, safety comes before happiness, if you are the type to put happiness before safety then you will spoil your child, you seem too have a lot to learn about parenting because I've seen this girls posts before and i have seen that her self esteem is quite low and i do believe some time off the internet and the media in general would do her good, the world is shit, fitting in isn't the answer because we are in a world where people put money over people, the bad influence is spread a lot easier than the good, we have children literally selling themselves and it spread like a plague all thanks to the media, you aren't looking out for this girls well being at this point, you are only looking out for her happiness throwing aside the importance of her mental state, i know this girl isn't mentally good and i personally think a break would do her wonders, im on her parents side on this.
- +1 y
That's because most of them are not educated about it. There is no point saying people are weaponizing social media when you don't blame a guns when mass shooting occur even though that itself is already a destructive weapon. I'm looking at it and what i'm saying is that she herself is misguided by her parents for supposed to be responsible and i don't blame social media because they are inanimate objects. If your value of safety so much then it's not different if you just live under a rock and be ignorant about how the world is now.
- +1 y
Those people who are successful are indeed those risk takers and they are willing to learn and if you wanna keep playing it safe, remember you're just going to die in the end anyways so what's the point? Also what kind of responsible person would blame in animate objects rather than blaming themselves if you think youd make a good parent?
- +1 y

not everyone behaves or reacts the same, thats why, you dont care but she seems to do so when it comes to here appearance, there's also a huge age difference, brains dont stop fully developing until around age 21, you are simply older and fully matured, she's a teenager and being on social media 24/7 isn't healthy for the mind, considering she considered this ruining her summer tells me she spends a huge amount of time online, lets not forget insecurity also plays a part, the reason you aren't effected is cause like you said, you dont give a fuck so why would you care about the things you see online, not everyone is like that, some people are insecure in many things and things they see on the media can effect those insecurities causing negative emotions and who knows maybe create certain disorders depending on the insecurity, she isn't the first person I've seen create insecurity due to the media I've seem many girls her age come and go on here and insecure about themselves comparing themselves to others they see on the media, im not saying she shouldn't go online, or have a social media, im just saying she needs a break from it that all, not to mention socializing online for really long can maybe even effect the way you socialize in person, the mind is very strong but very fragile at the same time, its a remarkable organ but its like a memory storage unit, you fill it up with enough junk and it can corrupt it.
- +1 y
But everyone has the same capability of changing their mindsets. While their brains aren't fully developed at that age, their brains are still in fact developing meaning to say their brain is open to learn more useful information so you don't exactly have to wait till their matured to teach them responsibilities when using the media while you can feed their brains useful information as they developed other wise other wise you're just gonna delay their maturity. Some people have been taught wrong during their brain developing stage making them not open to learn the right things at a later age. FYI, I have my social media at the age of 13 except I just simply know my limit because my brother kept reminding me about what could happen if I get too carried away and that's what parents should do. If you read the description, it's not even about taking a break, she's talking about deactivating her account which is a huge violation of her rights to learn.
- +1 y
She's in social media 24/7 yeah which is a bad thing but that's because she doesn't know her limit. Maybe her communication with her family just sucks because they could just be neglectful about her feelings, they never bother appreciating her and giving her moral support giving her better hobbies. Instead of just taking what's hooking her away, it's not that hard to just simply talk, bond, do activities together to make them bond even closer making her feel more confident and self aware. Maybe it's just hard for anyone who has high ego who isn't exactly prepared to have children in the first place. But to let you know, it's not too late to change.
- +1 y
By what I mean making her more self aware and confident, she may not need to be in the media 24/7 if she got the love she needs.
- +1 y
well people have different lifestyles, I don't know but if i had to assume i dont think she has an older sibling looking out for her, but if the parents are doing such strict parenting then im going to assume its for a reason that really worried them, i know this girl has had a few concerning ideas that concerned me at some point so i wouldn't be surprised at all if her parents have way bigger concerns from other things they might have seen and im not going to name them cause im not going to invade her privacy if she deleted the posts or whatnot but you seem to be speaking from your own perspective, not to mention society is also a lot harder on women when it comes to appearance than men so even myself never experienced negative effects from the media but that doesn't mean others won't get effected differently, and there's many ways to learn things that dont revolve around social media, social media doesn't teach you anything but junk, the internet does but you won't be learning anything on the internet if you are stuck in social media corrupting your mind, they want her to delete her social media account which not only are they legally responsible for her but social media also has age restrictions so technically she shouldn't even be on it if im not mistaken, thats beyond the point tho, you can access the internet to learn without having a social media account, now email is a different story, and you speak about responsibility, how do you expect to show responsibility without discipline, saying something will go through one ear and out the other, the truth is that no one listens to advice most of the time, most people learn through experience not being told something and i can assure you when she realizes how much better she feels after a break from social media she will learn the responsibility of spacing out the media time, if you tell someone dont do this and dont do that, the chances of them listening are slim.
- +1 y
now if they find out through an experience they will know not to do that, i also believe she should do more things during the summer and not be stuck on social media or the media in general, she should spend time with friends, go outside and life life a little, at the end of the day it will be good for her and its why my opinion stands, its not forever obviously cause she can always get back on but i can't say some things haven't spiked my concern and i wouldn't be surprised if her parents are becoming more strict from worry for her health, it is what it is
- +1 y
That still doesn't really justify the deletion of her social media account. The one she created herself. Removing the internet, sure they can do that but not her account. If society is a lot harder on women in appearance, it's still their responsibility to give her reassurance about her looks. She may not have a bigger sister to look after her but her parents are still there and they're "parents" for a reason. If they're just too busy doing whatever they do, they should have at least have time to bond with their children otherwise what's the point of being parents? You know that's also just like saying "don't go out because whatever can happen" Like what I said, everything has risk and life is too short. We're all gonna die in the end anyways. Just like going out with her friends, that's still has a risk. Also, you can't just simply force someone to be interested on something. Chances are she's just not simply interested on going out and talk to her friends because she may just have nothing to bring up. However, encouraging her to do some exercise would be the better benefits and they must do it together as family. Depriving doesn't really work because let's say what if they really did delete her account? Chances are she can just not stop crying and brooding over her deleted account and may not recover from it and do you want that to happen? Also you're forgetting that happiness matters a lot and it may matter a lot more than safety because happiness can cure and it's healthy on the contrary.
- +1 y
alright bro agree to disagree im not here to argue with you about it, think what you like, idc
- +1 y
You know that's what you should have done in the first place. And that still doesn't remove the fact that you still have more to learn
- +1 y
you are on my shit, you just have nothing better to do, we all have lots to learn, none of us know everything and all we can do is learn, i just chose not to read what you said cause you are talking from a blind perspective, i dont deal with ignorance
- +1 y
gritz ass nigga 😂
- +1 y
And if you are not starting an argument, why are you even here? Also if you are not ignorant yourself, it's really ironic if just choose to ignore whatever information given and choose whatever you just like to listen and cannot even explain a blind perspective. Are you sure you're not talking about yourself?
- +1 y
im here cause its my opinion you are commenting on dummy tf 😂
im positive, im speaking from a nonbias perspective, i just told you this girl has many concerning stories I've heard about, which im not going to describe due to privacy but i dont believe her parents are exaggerating, she should take a break from the media, you are yappin about your own experiences and has nothing to with this situation, all your information is about your own experiences which are completely useless in this situation, you are talking about the media being used as a learning method and catching up with the generation and all this genZ garbage, the girl needs a break for her mental health period, nothing you yapped about will help her mental health, you just seem butrhurt about something so you came to my opinion to start a pointless discussion which i dont care about, you aren't going to change my perspective and im surely not here to change yours, if you reply, ill respond back, its common sense, i really see no point in your appearance in my opinion. - +1 y
you doing too much
- +1 y
Like what do you even expect? If you are so free to start a thread, everyone is also free to reply and disagree. The world is not only about agreeing you know so there. If you don't like it then like what i said nobody is forcing you to make a claim. So what do you want? Make claims that nobody can hear? Video might as well just live under a rock and talk to yourself. And no i'm not even just talking about from my experience but i'm talking about the general result on what depriving does. Encouraging someone to take a break is different from forcing someone to take a break and if you are so ''mr. know it all'', you should have known the difference.
- +1 y
maybe for an adult, she's their parents responsibility, thats all im sayin, i gotta keep it simple for you apparently, I've repeated this several times but it seems you dont know what legal responsibility is, all you are basically doing is turning a teenager against her parents, you have the mentality of a spoiled child, grow up and learn about responsibility cause you surely aren't thinking clearly in this situation, so just cause a parent made a strict decision for the safety of their childs mental health they aren't being fair or are wrong? way to make your own parents look bad, cause all im picking up is that youve never had real discipline before if you think simply forcing a teenager to get off the internet is wrong and abusive behavior from a parent, discipline is important and this isn't even discipline, its just a rough choice for her own health, I don't know what else to tell you, you seem to only hear what you want to hear.
- +1 y
Just because you keep repeating what you said doesn't make it any more truthful. What i'm doing is actually just validating her feelings. If i have a mentality of a spoiled child then i can also tell you that you have a mentality of a lazy parent. That's basically a straw man argument. And if i really have a mentality of a spoiled child, where exactly did i say that it is ok for her to just compare herself to others and just stay on social media all she wants? The point here is that taking things slowly. Depriving someone immediately is a sudden change for someone to adopt and process which is why you cannot even tell the difference between encouraging someone to have better habits done to just simply deprive them with what they do. It's not really a surprise that it's going to hurt them a lot by deprivng them and if it really surprise you, you must be living under a rock. I don't think you actually interacted with anyone for you to confirm that they're just ok with being deprived like that.
- +1 y
*adapt.
I also just like to say there are ways like giving them responibilities and letting them understand that they have to do it because they would have any other choice like letting them cook their own food or do some chores that benifits them with emotional and moral support. Have you ever thought about that? No you haven't. Because you just like to do in the quickest in the laziest way right?
I forgot to mention just taking something away from someone as a form of punishment is the quickest and easiest way simply because they cannot blame themselves but they blame and inanimate object. - +1 y
*an inanimate object
- +1 y
you are clearly not seeing the point im trying to make, this is a you problem bro, idc about your points, my points are for her not you
- +1 y
And you clearly not know what you're saying. You're not doing it for her, you're doing it for yourself and of course you don't care which is ironic if you call me the ignorant one.
- +1 y
whatever you gotta tell yourself to sleep at night
- +1 y
You caring or not, my point still stands and now I can just claim what I just said about you are facts.
- +1 y
no they are assumptions, you dont seem to know the definition of that either, why am i not surprised
- +1 y
You saying you don't care yet you still come back anyways. That actually proves you don't know what you're saying. So what happened to "whatever you gotta tell yourself to sleep at night" and "idc about your points"? I'm gonna predict you're still not gonna eat your words lol
- +1 y
obviously, i receive a notification everytime you reply, just cause i reply doesn't mean i care, it just means i have the time to do so but considering you are behaving like a karen shows you care about this a lot more, im using you as a time killer as i wait for other replies lmao
- +1 y
So what? You're also receiving notifications from other users and even from G@G themselves. Does that really mean you have to respond to everything? Of course it does mean you care because actions speaks louder than words. Also, am I even the one who's trying to dismiss the argument here by saying "I don't care about your points"? No?
- +1 y
And yeah so what if I do care? I still have plenty of valid arguments for you that really made you whine "OOOHH he's a karen i'm such a victim" which ironically made you sound like them
- +1 y
I've never seen someone so salty, im not reading all that, you trying to reflect all your crap on me, you are sad and pathetic
- +1 y
yep gag has consumed him, now he behaves like a snowflake from the looks of it 😂
- +1 y
Just like whining ''he's so salty! OMG im such a victim'' Yeah that's how you basically sound. If you think i am wasting my time on you then i'm not someone like you who doesn't know time management who has their life messed up because they can't just have a minute to make a reply.
@JoyGirl yeah I'm still here. I always have a just few minutes for this site. Welcome back tho. - +1 y
bruh you act like you are on your period, you are the only one whining about who knows what 😂
- +1 y
got his hairline pulled back like he wearing a face mask lol

I can also just say you act like your just balls got removed and just say you're the one whining. It's easy to argue at your level at this point

oof looks like i hit a nerve lol

nah I've barely spoke to this guy before

+1 yThey have the right and they seem to have picked the right choice in deciding to take away your phone. Stop comparing yourself to others, this could lead to worse issues that can become life threatening such as if you develop an eating disorder. Your summer isn’t ruined you can still call up friends through your parents phones to set up places to go. There is also a thing called books…
10 Reply- 303 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yOf course they have a right to do that. You could even argue that they have an obligation as parents to do it.
It this "ruins" your summer, then that is an even better reason to take the phone away. It means you are addicted, and you should not be addicted to anything.
Forget the damn phone and live in the real world for a while.
00 Reply i think its too extreme to do that to a 16yo, that's stuff you do to a 12 yo. try to talk to your parents and try to find a compromise with them. like agree to not have any socials anymore for a while, and allow them to check that your respecting that, while letting you have your phone back for ex. taking your socials away is annoying and shit, but taking away your social life completely and your phone is on a whole other level
00 Reply
+1 yThey should do it more often, in my opinion. People spend too much time on social media, and not always with good intentions. People need to get out into the sun once in awhile and get some of that vitamin D. You need real social mingling to build skills at talking to those of the opposite sex face to face and in real time. The way some are going, they are turning into hermits.

+1 yHave a right yes did they do this right... Probably not but it is a problem you have like you say.
So many have it too! Your not alone.
Talk with your parents let them maybe take Instagram models from you to help. But you want your internet life 🙏.
My wife has that issue always wanting to be skinny but it is so hard for her. It is a mind set to aim for but not easy to get there.

+1 yHonestly it may seem like they ruined your summer but you will understand and be thankful in a few years. Social media is not real life. In the meantime keep yourself busy with other stuff. The weather is amazing right now go out, read some books there's so much to do when you don't have your smart phone around.
00 ReplyI´d say yes since it´s their job to keep you safe and give you a healthy self confidence. It sounds harsh but it might be for the better. Maybe it helps you develop a good self-esteem.
10 Replyi do understand their reasoning. anytime you compare yourself to others , you lose, you should always strive to be the best you, not be a copy of someone else. was their punishment moral, i don't know. take the time to think about who you want to be

+1 yHow is this going to ruin your summer? You'd rather be looking at social media than enjoying the summer?
12 Reply- +1 y
I'm not much of a social person, so i tend to spend a lot of my time on my phone. I use it to learn a new language on Duolingo, watch tutorials on digital painting techniques on YouTube... play online games, and connect with my online friends. However, with my phone being taken away, i feel like a significant part of my daily routine has been disrupted...
- +1 y
Yeah. We get too used to having a phone and doing all that. It's addictive really. So tell me about this Duolingo. I want to learn Spanish. Lol
+1 yWait 2 more years.. Then you can do as you please. Sorry to sound like a parent (I dont have kids and can't have kids) My suggestion, again I hate to sound like a "boomer" as you folks call us. At 16 I never had the internet, let alone a phone.
00 ReplyYes, they can. But your issue is that you're comparing yourself to other "models" that have no bearing on who you are. Each person is unique in their own way and looks, weight, height, personality, etc., contributes to who you are. Not some photoshopped picture which is purposely made to look perfect. IF comparing means that much (which it shouldn't), find pictures of those "models" first thing in the morning right after they wake up.

+1 yYes, undoubtedly they do. And kudos to them for doing it!

*Just to clear my answer up: Sounds to me like you'd be ruining your Summer much more with your phone and social media by your side...
Go outside, have some actual fun. Clearing your head will do you good!
+1 yI'm sure they did it trying to help. I can't say whether or not they were right in doing so but they are right that you shouldn't compare yourself to people media. People post what is best about themselves, but not all the bad things.
+1 yUnfortunately they do.. thankfully that has never happened to me. I'm sorry that happened to you. Would you like to talk about it? I'm looking for friends to chat with on here.

I’d love to be your friend that’s why I’m here
- +1 y
@kerrieK001 were your parents just trusting of you, or were you always a good kid?
Anonymous(Under 18)+1 yHonestly? That all comes down to how you perceive yourself. If you truly need the feeling to compare yourself to other woman who may be older and have much more experience tuning and adjusting their photos to look flawless for the camera. Those are your self esteem issues. You should never compare yourself to others. Only yourself. And see if you have improved and gotten better from the day before. Not someone else who has no say in your personal life.
10 Reply522 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Honestly it sounds like they ruined it by not being strict enough and not making you go out and work for the summer, you have way too much time to be thinking about yourself apparently.
00 Reply- 375 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yIt was a good decission and better for your well being when you constantly compared yourself to people who look unreachable perfect due to filter and image editing.

+1 yHow is being without a phone ruining your summer🤨? Go out, swim, go for a walk, ride a bike, play volleyball with your friends, go on a picnic, go fishing, take up a hobby etc. You don't need a phone to do this👍.

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yYes they do. They’re being responsible parents. They didn’t “ruin” your Summer, there are lots of things to do without a smartphone.
10 ReplyThey bought the phone and pay for the service so I guess they have the right. Maybe be honest with them and ask for a "truce" and promise them u will not get hooked on IG models. Just enjoy the body u have

Anonymous(25-29)+1 yMore to life than social media. There's more important things you should be concentrating on that will help you find a good husband for kids and marraige. You are 16 you should be at least engaged by now or married with a baby on the way.
02 Reply- +1 y
Maybe in a developing country but no one is getting married at 16 in the West anymore
Opinion Owner+1 y@InspiringMind hence all the spoilt brats crying about their social media accounts
+1 yConfiscation is another word for stealing. If they steal Thy phone, steal something similar in price from them. Parents have no effing right to ruin anyone’s summer. Comparison of Thyself to others is wrong, but at least Thou stolest nothing.
00 ReplyYes they do sadly! Sometimes its necessary, other times its just because they are controlling. My parents did the same thing to me too!

+1 yBecause you're a child and clearly not emotionally mature enough to be on the site.
00 Reply424 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Yes they do. They protect you from your own bad habits since you clearly don't manage it yourself.
00 Replyruining your entire summer?
your social media accounts are ruining your self-esteem

+1 yThey're trying to save your life. Do you know how many young girls have committed suicide over social media? Google it. SM is toxic.
00 Reply- 3.5K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic.
+1 yYes they do and they are right about comparing yourself to other girls, because, Its a dead end street. If your that unhappy with your body, then spend the summer working on it. :)
00 Reply 4.9K opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. This has nothing to do with the Internet you’re only 16 don’t worry about Instagram models. This is too much discipline. How are you able to post now?
00 ReplyGet a job. You don't pay for anything yet want freedom like an adult. If anything your parents are soft based on your mentality.
+1 ySounds like something they have the right to do for a minor, yeah.
+1 yI think in Utah minors need parents permission to use social media now. Honestly I think it's a good thing.
+1 yBasically. If you don't pay to live at the house, which, you likely can't at 16, you're likely going to be controlled, until you can
01 Reply- +1 y
And they made the right decision, sorry. but they did
+1 yThey want you to stop comparing yourself to others and to try and feel better about yourself.

+1 ySo far you are not adult, it is right to keep on right track
00 Reply486 opinions shared on Family & Friends topic. Lol... you will thanking them one day.
What did you do for them to do that?01 Reply- +1 y
Honestly, I think what they did was right. You may think your summer is “ruined”, but years from now, you will look back on this time and thank them one day. They did this to protect your mental health. So many people have committed suicide because of comparing themselves to people on social media. In the meantime, fill your time/days with productive activities, like spending time with your friends and getting a job. 😊
+1 yDepending how their year old behaves.
+1 yIt all depends on the reason why they did it
