Was my brother's reply great towards a very late apology?

He's 31 years old and someone messaged him on his FB recently, along with a friend request. The guy was apologizing profusely for treating him badly when they were 13-15 year-olds and explaining how horrible his upbringing was.

This was my brother's message:

Hello Stranger

I have no idea what you're talking about. My memory is fuzzy. I forgot what I had for breakfast yesterday. You have the wrong person because I don't remember you at all. Good bye.

My brother clearly does remembers him but that guy is a ghost to him. He denied the friend request. He's not interested in associating nor befriending anyone that suddenly wants to add him now, many years later suddenly. Was that a good reply?

My brother would've accepted the apology during his teen years right at that moment or before his HS graduation, not randomly after nearly 2 decades later since moving on.

That's exactly what I would now say to my first ex boyfriend and former school bullies from my school years.

They don't deserve our love nor hatred. Not even getting remembered will get anyone. Excellent response.

In the ideal world, the apology would be accepted but the one apologizing years later has to be prepared for all types of replies which includes: apology accepted, apology declined and getting told bad words, no reply back at all and getting blocked or the person claiming not to remember you.

I would have tracked the guy down and given him the beating he richly deserved so I think your brother showed great restraint and handled it with a bit of humor.

Everyone reacts differently to bullying. Personally, I think I would've asked ''Why are you apologizing this late, what do you want?''
Though I think if you track them down to give them a beating after so many years later, that's still showing you care so much about them enough to beat them.

There was a kid that used to pick on me in 9th grade. He was 17 years old I and i was 14. It was no contest. He was gone by the time I was in high school. I think he dropped out. Years later I tried to look him up on the internet and he was nowhere to be found. Either he died or was in prison or moved far away before there was an internet. I might have tracked him down and have him try to pick on me now that I was fully grown.

Indeed it is weird trying to reconnect many years later after an incident happened and randomly requesting a friendship.
My brother sees that guy as a total stranger and weirdo indeed.
