Not jealous, sometimes I feel uncomfortable around them because their lifestyles and assets make me feel pressured to work harder or make me feel less happy.
When I'm not around them I am perfectly happy and content with what I do have, and it pales by comparison if that makes sense. Like if you bought a shiny $5 ring that makes you happy to stare at all day every day but someone sticks a $10 million ring next to it. I would not want anything disturbing my peace and making me feel less joy about the $5 ring I love. I don't need the expensive on if the cheap one is great to me. I don't want to work harder, I have an easy life and enjoy it. I don't want anything to make me feel like I should work harder. No rat race for me.
Around 10-15 years ago I would hang out with a group of women regularly, and many of them were 10 years older and looked so much wealthier by comparison. I had no desire to waste what little I did have "keeping up with them". When I stopped hanging around them I became so much happier. It wasn't anything they did wrong, it was just not healthy for me. Now, I lived frugally away from them and have more money than most of them but still act poorer.
The richest man I know has a net worth of at least $10 million, but he's not flashy. His house is smaller and poorer looking than mine. He's a simple man who enjoys simple hobbies. His car is nicer and he has some boats, but I feel that the house evens things out. When I'm around him I don't feel any of that same pressure that I had with the ladies group. There's no need to keep up or act different to fit in with him. It's very nice. Plus, $10 million is an achievable goal in my lifetime, he just happens to have a few decades on me. So, I don't feel like he's on some unreachable pedestal.
If a friend had a billion dollars, I would worry about whether I could keep up with any expensive things they wanted to do that I can't afford. If I keep turning them down, it might damage the friendship. But, if they paid for me I would feel like a mooch and like they might attract the wrong people if they make that a habit. Just seems stressful unless they just want to hang out and do normal things that I can afford.
Jealousy is kind of pointless to me unless you want everything that they went through to get that money. The trauma, abuse, sacrifices, hard work, whatever you didn't see behind closed doors, etc. I don't want any of that, so I'm not jealous.11 Reply

She is so lucky. We grew up together since junior high school. She got married almost right out of high school. She married the son that opened three stationary stores that also sold office furniture. She just landed a job there as a sales girl.
Anyway he's parents have a lot of money and so do his great grandparents.
She has never had a worry in her life. He was always there to take care of anything she needed.
I never had any security or family my whole life.
I think about her and her life and figure she was at the right place at the right time. 🤷🏼♀️05 Reply
Asker+1 yIs she still alive?
Asker+1 yMaybe she so nice thats why she's blessed?
Asker+1 yLol. Life isn't fair. Sometimes you get what you want sometimes you dont. I will tell you this. I used to have a guy friend who really likes he was tall, handsome, rich sweet and does everything for me. My friends would get jealous of me and they would always call me lucky cuz he likes me. But I still think Im unlucky because he's so blessed and I can't even find a job because Im sick now I lost contact with him. I still think of that man till this day I wonder what happened to him.
+1 yNope, not at all. I am happy for them.
During my trip to Poland, I made a Chinese friend who ended up being an only daughter of a Chinese multimillionaire. We spent amazing holidays together and occasionally meet up here in China too, she came over to stay in my apartment a few times and invited me to her hometown.
She’s amazing and very sweet to me. And I would be friends with her whether he was rich or not and I am not jealous at all. To be honest, I totally don’t think about her richness.
I am only happy to know that she’s doing fine.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 yI've known one of my best friends for 25+ years now. I knew him when we were young and he was poor (his own words). He used to carry around a dream notebook everywhere he went with pictures of places he wanted to travel to, cars he dreamed of having. Cut to now, he's near the top tax bracket, only 6 degrees of separation between he and the president, has several businesses, sells his own wine, travels several times a year...he's killing it. When I visited him on vacation once, he was like, oh, we're going to go to a party to watch the World Cup Final, and we show up and it's the literal mayors house with a couple of well knowns that I'd only ever seen on tv and he whispers, I didn't want you to get nervous, so I didn't tell you. WTF.
The best thing about him though is he has NEVER lorded his wealth over anyone or me. He's wealthy and well connected but he doesn't use that to put you down and if he knows you can't afford that $1,000 dinner bill, he takes you to a place that's affordable and enjoys it as much as we used to when we were kids. He hasn't changed and I appreciate that so much because wealth can make people ugly, but I think it has a lot to do with his amazing mother and his humble upbringing.10 Reply
Anonymous(45 Plus)+1 yAt this point in my life, I'm a little more jealous of people who are successful at our job. I like them, I'm friends with most, and friendly with a lot of people. It's a close knit group sometimes. But I admit I'm a bit frustrated that I have to struggle for one short job, but work and opportunities just seem to come naturally to them. They don't have to spend hours looking. One job will get them ten others.
Plus, we don't always know how someone earns money. I'm not obsessed with money; though it'd make my life easier and let me breathe easier.
One good thing that stems from "big money" (even if its mom or dad's) is the connections. The networking. The jobs and opportunities probably come much easier with just a last name and parent's reputation.
Being successful so that I don't have to work constantly (just to get the occasional short lived job is what I would want...) for income, I'd like just enough to be proud of, support maybe a small happy family, and not constantly have to worry about which bill to pay.00 ReplyI only have one friend who is actually "rich" in the literal sense of the word, and I'm not jealous. They have the same problems so many other very wealthy people seem to struggle with: wanting acceptance, having the world but still feeling empty and unhappy, obsessed with hot cars and other fine things, etc.
I think I must be one of few people who does not see the need for worldly/material greatness or being significantly "successful." I am fortunate to do well in life and have my own money, but I'm not on a hunt to be iconic or compete with people financially or in status, nor does my personal "success" mean so much to me that I should think I'm better than others.

+1 yI don’t. I would rather be friends with somebody who isn’t in stingy then hang out with somebody who thinks it’s okay to demand money from me because they are broke. I had one guy hate me for 5 years because I refused to date him after he gave me a ride home from church and did not charge me for gas. He would ask other people for $20 for a 20 mile trip with 3 people in the car paying him $70 and if you did not pay him, he would not drive you. I know another guy that wanted me to buy him $16 meals at McDonalds when I did not have a job and he would pay $7.40 for a taxi ride to the restaurant when he lived less than 900 meters away. So yeah, I prefer a friend who buys me lobster over one who demands I pay for every drop of vinegar they put on my salad or burger.

Anonymous(30-35)+1 yNo… truthfully I’m happy for them. I have friends that have everything that I’ve ever wanted in life. I wouldn’t have made the exact choices they have but hey, you have a wife, kids, the white picket fence and your career in order… everything I thought I ever wanted on paper… the specifics no, but that’s them, and if that’s what makes them happy, that’s fantastic. Good for them.
And what’s funny… ironically, they show way more signs of being jealous of me… Go figure. 🤷♂️ They’ve been acting real weird. One guy straight up told me that he hates how good I am at certain things, and it’s like “welp, I don't know what to tell you...” 😂

+1 yI sometimes wish I owned my own house, lived away from home and had a husband and children, a life of my own, no health problems, so yes, sometimes I feel the slightest twinge of envy. Less than jealousy, because they deserve good things in life and I’m happy they have them and I’m grateful for what I’ve got, who I’ve got, but yes. I’d love to have my own flat or townhouse.

+1 yI am envious of them, but it's less about the fact that they're rich, and more about wishing I had the financial security to just stop working for long periods of time if I wanted to. Even if I had no rich friends to be envious of I'd still want this

+1 yNot at all if i have a rich friend then i will wish them the best. otherwise i won't call myself their friend. I will learn also from them how they conduct themselves. Being jealous is pure waste of time. Its either u have Something or not. If u dont have it work for it. But standing there being all jealous and spiteful is a waste

+1 yMore annoyed than anything. My best friend since childhood parents are well off. I was more annoyed by the fact he would call himself self made. By 30 he had been gifted 2 new cars, new phones and the plans payed for, for his birthday and Christmas he was gifted pretty much ever new tech product that hit the market. He'd talk as if he had achieved all of that through hard work and perseverance. So it was just more annoying than anything.
