Not because they’re a genuinely nice person. I’m one of the latter. But I hate when I run into people who seem so nice but then they prove they lack boundaries. It’s like they think their nice act will get them things from me they otherwise wouldn’t get. Specifically this time I’m talking about my new roommate.

That's why I'm wary to get too close to people nowadays. It's rare finding people that like you, support you, and want to be your friend. More often than not, people just "befriend" you because you have something they need or want, and use said friendship to as a better chance to acquire it (eg: a job, promotion, relationships...)
And yes, I realize there are genuinely nice people out there that help you because they want to be nice and friendly. The problem is finding said people!
Same I’m becoming so closed off… oh well!
Yes, and then they ignore you.
