Why does my older relative tell me I should ask my dad if he’s ok with me moving country when I’m 31?

Hmm that does seem a bit weird for them to say you need to ask your dad's permission still. I mean you're 31 already, like way past being a grownup! Unless your dad is totally paying for everything and the move himself I don't see why you'd need to get his approval.

Maybe your relative is just old-fashioned in their thinking or something. Like from a different generation where women always had to get a man's permission. But times have changed! You can do whatever you want with your own life now.

I'd just be like "uh thanks for your concern but I don't actually need Dad's permission for my own decisions." Maybe your relative will get the hint that you're your own person making your own choices. Don't let them try to treat you like a kid still! Show them you're in charge of your life.

because your relative has no respect for you and thinks you are dependent and not able to do things yourself (which is untrue!) just go for it. not sure what this relative has against you, maybe jealousy since they can't do anything anymore.

She doesn’t have a good reputation in the family like her own brother didn’t talk to her for a long time. She can be a bit of a drama kind of woman. I’ve already lived in another country as a single woman
