Girls, have you had positive male role models in your lives growing up?

I’ve been very lucky in the sense that I had wonderful men in my life growing up, who helped me be the person I am today.

My great grandfather - I can write a book of how amazing he was. Instead I will just say that, he created a magical world for me and the most wonderful, magical and unforgettable of my childhood memories are connected to him. He gave me the childhood, I can remember fondly till the end of my life.

My grandfathers - They always told me they believed in me and they were proud of me and they always created the sense of harmony, security and peace around me, I felt like I didn’t have to be scared about anything.

My three uncles - They were always so protective of me, I knew that no one could ever mess with me, because my uncles would be there protecting me and not allowing anyone to hurt me. And even though they were very traditional, they always supported me to become a strong person, not a woman who’d have to be protected by anyone.

My father - My father gave me the greatest gift a father can give to a daughter, believe in her. He has always trusted me deeply. He gave me the freedom to choose whoever I wanted to be and he made sure I knew that whatever I chose, he’d be there loving me and believing in me all the same. He gave me an example of what a man should be like, how a man should treat a woman and the absolutely best gift he gave me was loving my mother immensely. I don’t know if I can explain how important it is for every girl. He also taught me of how I should be loved, and how deep a father’s love can be. He’s the best dad I could dream of having and I feel blessed to have him in my life.

And finally, my brother- My playmate, my partner in crime, a person who I could just laugh with at the crazy things, he taught me how to let go, how to enjoy life, how to have fun like that’s the last day you are alive. Having him meant having the most loyal friend one can dream of having, I trust him with my life.

Just wanted to share this to let men read how important male role models are in girls’ lives and how they shape our personality and future.

Hope, you’ll are influential grandparents, fathers, uncles and brothers. And girls, hope you had the pleasure of having them.

While the question is aimed at girls, I also believe it applies equally to boys. Having a role model as a boy growing up is important, you learn values and social expectations from them. I was lucky to have a father and older brother that provided that, learning those important things, like being able to ask for help when you needed it, that going on regardless is not how it should work, learning respect for others. Also a shout out to those female role models, such as mums, aunts, teachers, sisters.

and yes, because her parents have both always worked a lot, I've been "coparenting" my niece for a few years now and I've always made sure to try my absolute best when it comes to... I don't like to call it being a "role model" but being the most genuine I can be and the most truly as well

and it makes me the happiest to realize that she's becoming a wonderful person of her own and a genuinely happy one at that... it has not been easy at all, but we've never been alone... and she might gone through some things I did struggle with but, she won't do it alone like I did, of that I've always made sure sure

My step father. My real father never really stepped into the “dad” role until I became an adult, so throughout my childhood and teens, I could not count on him to be a father figure. My mother met my step father when I was 10. She’s been with him for 12 years now, married for 5. He’s a very kind and understanding man. I’ve always viewed him as more of a father figure than my biological father. My step father has been there for me during tough times when my biological father did not bother.

Yes. Dad, grandfathers, teachers (inside and out of school). My brother is younger and while we had our moments of getting along, I'm not sure I'd say he was a "role model" just due to me being older.

I was too young to really be influenced by my grandfather before he passed away.

My step-dad is the only positive male role model I had but I was almost an adult by the time he came into our lives so I really didn't have one growing up.

Not a girl, but might as well answer.
All my positive male role models were cats. So I decided to be a cat too.

I'm vaguely reminded of when I was particularly young and went around to the house of a female friend... and her father was there... and I was terrified and whispered to her "there's a man in your house!" ... The whole thing was such an alien concept to me at the time that I didn't know how to process it.

You see, we are all born as a male or female, what makes us humans and not animals? It's because we have brains, knowledge and intelligence... etc

Also what makes a woman a real mother? All female can get pregnant and give birth but can they all be called a mother? Hell no! A mother is a title, we all know what a real mother is and surely it's a lot more than just giving a birth!

Now all men are males but not all males can be real men because a real man is a title given to a male because of his words, promises, integrity, power, loyality and respect... etc
