My mom and dad met when they were in middle school. She was 13 and he was 14. He was friends with her older brother. In high-school they started dating and they've been together for 49 years.
My father is from Japan and was a little boy in Shizuoka during the fire bombings of WW2. His family had a family kimono business for generations, weaving and selling kimonos, which was destroyed by the bombings.
During one of the bombings, he became stranded from his family in the panic with only his little sister. They made their way to Shizuoka river and stayed there for days but his little sister died in his arms from shock and malnutrition. If anyone saw the film, Grave of the Fireflies, that was surprisingly similar to my father's experience which always made the film hit me a bit harder than usual.
The actual bombings didn't claim so many lives directly as Japanese fled to safety; the biggest killer was famine. I remember my father recalling stories like how excited he was to find fish bones rummaging through people's garbage since he could eat the bones. He later managed to find his way back to his family but times were hard and food was extremely scarce.
Finally, the war ended. Soon after, he recalled seeing American soldiers helping to rebuild and one of them gave him canned food including canned peaches. To him at the time, those canned peaches tasted like the best food he ever ate in his entire life. He became determined after that experience to learn English and visit America given how kind the American soldiers were to him.
So after graduating from school, he set out immediately to Los Angeles, California with little more than a suitcase to his name. There in LA, he started off as a lowly cook and worked his way to head sushi chef to eventually owning his own Japanese steakhouse restaurant,
My mother is from East Tennessee. She grew up in a very large family with her grandfather owning a lumber business. Just about every member of that large family including her father (who later became a paratrooper in WW2) worked in the lumber business, men and women alike. Yet she was one of those unusual free-spirited types who wanted to leave her small town and family business and experience the rest of the world, not content with the life planned out for her.
So after graduating high school, she set out to California to find new opportunities and found work as a waitress in a Japanese steakhouse restaurant. That happened to be the restaurant my father owned.
One time while visiting my father's office, she caught him dancing and singing "The Sound of Music" really loud while spinning around:

My father turned out to be one of those weird types of guys where you can't make out if he's the ultimate dork or really cool, speeding around in a red convertible while singing Diana Ross.
She fell in love with him on the spot. They began dating, later married, returned to Japan, and finally had me in Shizuoka.

yes...
my parents also met during their middle-school years but not in school... they lived nearby enough to each other to end up going to the same baseball park, thing was that...
my mother would go with her brothers and cousins in a pack, and she was one of the very few girls in the lot, lol... and she was often told that she should not be there nor she could play with them, this by other kids from other streets other than hers... and so, from time to time there were some kiddy rumble about it, lmao
now, my mother would also go with his own, all brothers and cousins and while they didn't give my mother's pack any trouble, is not like they trusted each other much, lol... kept a distance... also, my father would spend more time looking at my mother from the distance than playing baseball... for which he got teasing and banter from everyone
anyway... at some point my mother ended up there at the baseball lot with a lot less company and these other kids jumped on them... and surely thing sure, lmao... my father did run like a maniac to get involved, which prompted the brothers and cousins to follow and...
around 40 years later or so... they still sit around to watch the World Series together (=
Yep, my mom was 19, dad was 24 and engaged to another girl, they met at their mutual friendsā house, playing some games.
My dad fell hard for my mom, she was a very feminine girl,
He realized he loved my mother more than the girl she was about to marry.
She married my mom insteadā¦
But he suffered with karma a lotā¦ His life ended up being full with pain and worries, he paid for his mistakes, more than he deservedā¦
I wish he could have chosen that girl, maybe both of my parents would be happier.
They are thankfully better now and my dadās ex-fiancé is a happy successful woman now. I am happy for her.
lol
My mom studied law in the city my father lived, my father studied law in the city my mom lived... they met by "common friends" when my mom was on her second year and my father was on his third. They both were part of the "resistance underground", created, printed and distributed anti government newspapers. They were totally different, but fell in love.

I do yeah my father saw my mother walking down the street and fell in love with her the moment he saw her, said to himself that he was gonna marry her then he didn't see her again for quite sometime.
Until he was cruising around with his buddy getting girl's numbers one night and he came across a wreck that had taken place my mother and her friend were there checking out what had happened at the scene they started talking he got her number and when he got home he threw the other 8 or so numbers he got that night in the trash. And the rest his history.
My gosh. I do nowā¦ I alwhas had my wonders about them. What I was led to believe was they met at work. What really happened was they were both in relationships with other people. But my mom became pregnant with me so they married each other.
The marriage ended in disaster. But not until I was grown up. Things were really weird there for a few years. Mom had a affair. Living with her boyfriend now. My dad. Already married to his new wife. Whcihā¦.. is questionable.
She was married to her husband and he was married to my mom when they got engaged. She got pregnant before they got married. And hopefully things work out.
I honeslty wish the best for my parents. I had to forgive them. Butā¦. Only God knows how things will end up.Oh, well, I never really thought about how my parents met before. I suppose it must have been something pretty ordinary, like at a work function or maybe through mutual friends. I'll have to ask Mother about it the next time we play Scrabble on Saturday night. It's always good to learn more about family history, even if it's not the most thrilling topic. Maybe I can organize my sock drawer while she tells me the story. That would be a productive way to spend the evening. @NormalBoringGuy you stuffed me in the cellar and left me there. Me and father. Mother stop it they were going to find you and you know they wouldn't understand why you sit there in front of a Scrabble board with CORPSE in the triple-word space.
They met at a fraternity party at North Dakota State University, but didn't exchange numbers. Two days later they both were in the wedding party at the same wedding in the small town of Leroy, ND. My mom was a cousin of the bride, my dad was a fraternity brother of the groom. They walked down the aisle together during the processional and everything. Must have taken it as a sign, because they were engaged 6 months later.
Yes. My dad was taking some client of his out for drinks after a day of doing business, and the client started talking to my mom, who was out with my aunt. My dad was just wing manning the client, talking to my aunt, who was already engaged to my uncle at the time. Iām sure my dad was like āGREATā, lmao.
So they part ways at the end of the night, and it was the 60s, so the guys gave the women their business cards. I guess the next day my mom said to my aunt, āI donāt think I like that Italian guy from New York. Give me that blonde guyās number.ā And I guess it just went from there, I donāt want to know anything else, lmao.
Beautiful Story, dear. Mom and Dad Met on a Blind date. lol Dad finally Grew on Mom and They Began to Date. However, They Got Drunk One Night and Split for 7 Weeks. Mom found Out She was PG for me and Called Dad to Tell him and He was so happy that He Raced back to MOM in a Heartbeat. lol Sadly, Disease Took Them a Few Years Ago... I Really Miss Them. xxoo
It was an arranged marriage for them. However, as per my knowledge they also knew each other a little bit when they were kids.
I don't know how much they knew each other or how they actually met, I also never really bothered to ask them about this.
Honestly.
My mum had lots of compatible suitors who came to ask permission from my grandfather, though he wasnāt interested in them.
My dad came and assisted my grandfather in a lot of things, running the farm, tending to the animals, fixing the cars/tractor. My grandfather liked him, he felt like my dad was a family man and he can take care of the family if anything. He gave permission for my dad and mum to get married together.
Theyāve been separated for over 10 years now.
Originally they were neighbors when married to their exes. Then moved away but a few years later they seen each other at the store when they were both single and decided to go on a date
Yea they met in the US during vacation, they were both here on vacation if I'm not mistaken, imagine going on vacation to another country and meeting a man that is also on vacation in that country then y'all keep in contact and well here I am lol
My dad was in the air force during the Vietnam war and tired of the East Coast winters. He transferred to the air base in Los Angeles in 1966 and was working at an early 1900's themed pizza place on the weekends called Gaslamp Pizza. My mom walked in one day and the rest was history.
I know my dad's story but it's probably just bull shit. He said he saw her at church and knew he was going to marry her. Like I haven't heard that one before. Besides now a days people would call her a desperate girl. I think they might call him that also.
According to dad, he was in a hole digging a ditch and she sacheted by and he looked up and fell in love. If it was actually different, I've never heard the true story.
Yes, she was my aunt's college friend and came to visit. He was just sitting in his chair at home. My aunt made plans and had to cancel so my mom asked if he wanted to see a movie. She apparently also made the first move and kissed him after.
Iām pretty sure they met in school but hated each other. But then they slowly started liking each other then started dating lol
A house party on New Year's Eve... and 9 months later, a beebella was born. 😭
My dad met my mum at a bachelors party where his friend had hired her and few other girls n from there they both fell in love in next few meetings
My parents met through their best friends. A union which would have been better if it never happened, then I wouldn't be here and the world would be a better place lol.
