Is telling your child ''others are doing that, it's 2024 already and you're not young anymore'' the worst advice ever?

She brought up my age again, how I'm too old (I'm 36) and telling me to get use to the trend, how others are doing it for the others and they don't take things serious. All this coming from my mother.

My reply was an:

So if other are jumping off the cliff because it's a trend, I should do the same thing too, just because that's modern?

What she told me actually made me feel worse. Why would I be too old? So I'm not worthy of anything (but a discarded worthless object) but just to have fun with?

I don't know how modern something is. If I don't like it, I'm not doing it. I think I have the rights to still have my own goals and wants regardless of age.

What if I end up copying what ''others are doing'' and end up feeling even more miserable than ever?
