Are human connections flimsy today?

I feel like so many connections are just made because of convenience (you live in the same place or you do the same activity together) and as soon as it's a bit more difficult they fall apart. I just moved from one place, where we lived together, to my own apartment. It's only 500 meters away from the old place but to many people I might aswell have died. There was this one person that I really wanted to stay in touch with even after I left. I thought I was gonna make progress and build up more social connections that I didn't see in my everyday life automatically. But now this person did something quite bad and they haven't apologized for it yet and I feel even more isolated now. I still have people from my work that I like and get along with well and once I settle in a bit at the new place I can do new activities and meet new people make new friends but right now it's a tough time for me socially.

In the past people were forced to have close bonds because they depended on each other to survive but now people don't really need each other that much. So the smaller annoying things that were overlooked in the past out of necessity become more of a big deal. People only want to know someone if it's convenient.
