Primarily, it's because of instant gratification. People rush and act on impulse. There are some people who act on things swiftly without thinking intently of the repercussions they'd possibly encounter.

Social media and the Internet may be catalysts of infidelity, unfortunately. Look at the unsatisfied people who still search for "love" even though they're already committed to a person.

Because a lot of people only enter them so that they can get attention, so that their SO can take care of them, and so that they can show off. Not everybody is like this but I know plenty of serial (and some longterm) daters who don't care about their SO. It's all about them.
