I had my first boyfriend when I was 16 years old. My dad one night, probably did not like that I was on the phone late with my said boyfriend at the time, decided to say to me basically; "What are you talking about? Are you guys talking about getting married? You wanna marry him go ahead that's what his people do, marry young." (My boyfriend and I were just talking about the topic of what we see for ourselves in the future but my dad clearly misheard the conversation.) Fast forwarding I'm now 18-19 years old and I have this cool guy friend, my dad for whatever reason comes into my room (I forgot what led to this conversation out of his mouth) and says; "Yeah I get it you guys probably talk about sex." And I was like, "But we don't?" (This guy friend I had literally had a long-term girlfriend that both of my parents were aware of.) Regardless of that my dad simply did not believe me, and he did not believe my mom when she told him; "I'm proud that our daughter feels comfortable to wait till marriage." My dad said, "Eh, we'll see." (I never gave my parents a reason to think I would be that type of active as a young adult.) And I'm 22 and I'm talking to this guy who I like, I felt comfortable telling my dad, and 1.) He was disinterested (continued to look at his phone and not look at my mom as she told him about the guy) 2.) Despite the guy being half-Fijian (my family is from Fiji), my dad does not clearly like the fact that he is also half-white (my dad talks about culture and religion)
Anyway my point is that I don't know why my dad behaves like this towards me. And I would appreciate some point of views. Thank you.
