Do you believe someone on welfare can transform their life and join the military?

I grew up poor. Dropped out of middle school to tend to the home because the adults were sick and drunk. Shortly after I got pregnant and I wasn’t even 18 yet. I did my best and it was hard without knowing anything. The cost of child care and rent alone together was too much for me to earn on a single income. So I made the choice to stay home until my child was old enough to be alone a bit after school, so then I could hold full time hours to upgrade my education and get out of this hole.

I need inspiration and hope, it’s really hard doing this on my own once again. I’m reminded of when I had to take care of the house alone so young.

I expressed my keen interest in upgrading and joining the forces. Wow. A got such negative responses from people I thought I could say good news to or things I’m proud about. Reality check is people don’t care how good you’re doing, they just wanna know the bullsh! t you’re going through and then they’re all supportive. F*ck The World Man you all suck

Dang girl, you've definitely had it tough from a young age. But it sounds like you've got grit - dropping out to care for your family shows maturity beyond your years. Don't be too hard on yourself, you did the best you could in a bad situation.

Now you're picking yourself back up and that's what counts. Absolutely the military could be a great option to transform your life! I've seen so many people use it to get job skills, pay for college, build a career. And the benefits are legit - you'll get healthcare, housing allowance, tuition help.

Once you meet the requirements like diploma/GED, passing the ASVAB and being in shape, the doors open up. I'd say start prepping now by studying on your own or taking adult ed classes. And stay focused on your goal rather than getting bogged down in what you've been through.

You've already shown how resilient you are. Now apply that strength to your future! Reach out to recruiters too for info on the best fits. I know if anyone can turn things around, it's you, girl. You've got this! Stay encouraged - better days are ahead!

You can join the military. You can also look into one of the many programs since Covid that were created for people like you can go to college or get some form of training to get a better job.

Yes there is that too. I’d love stability so that I can feel safe and know it’s gonna be alright. I’m the bread winner and I gotta keep trying

I do not know whare you live but for starters you can go to the local Community College and ask to speak to a counselor. They can tell you what kind of programs are available for you. It is not easy to be a parent and go to school but lots of peopl edo it, myself included.

The military is one way to have a decent job and to get some training and sometimes you can get an education during your military stay, though most people get education savings accounts and get their degrees after their hitches.

However, you might consider a military career. There are loads of new opportunities for women and they lead to decent lives, good child care and education for the children of military people, housing supplements and in some areas base housing. The military takes care of their people.

It is definitely a way out of poverty and into self-esteem and success.

Go talk to a recruiter about which arm of the military is appropriate for you according to your interests.

I’ve already applied and in touch with the recruiters. They want me on board I just have to upgrade some courses and he said send the transcripts straight to him rather than applying again.
