Like one time I wanted to be an actress but my parents were against it, especially my mother. Her and I would butt heads about it. They supported me in doing community plays and school plays but not professional acting or the industry. I know not everyone will like your choices but when it’s your own parents it’s disappointing and hurtful. My mom literally cried when I said I’m going into the entertainment industry when I told her and my dad. My dad said I should find another career because most actors have to go through auditions to find work and acting isn’t a suitable job. It’s tough and a competition. My mom cried and scolded, “Why would you wanna be an actress? You will be screwed up! Your life will be ruined!” And she walked away. Like seriously.
One time I auditioned for a role in the downtown theater in my town and my mom didn’t want me to ace it.
I eventually got the part and my parents weren’t too excited. My dad was like, “Hmmmm….. you made the play huh. Okay….. and?”
Mom said bluntly, “I’m going to be blunt. I didn’t want you to ace your audition. I didn’t. I wanted you to fail because I don’t want you getting sick into the industry and the toxic things they do. There’s nothing else to say since you made the play. I can’t say I’m happy for you. You’re NOT special. You’re just like everyone in this world (which is true). If you wanna be an actress and ruin your life, go ahead but don’t come crying to be when you’re unemployed and broke.”
Man parents are the harshest critics. Even my siblings were like, “Really? You got any other job? Another play? Ugh. Why do you do so many plays?”
also “Aren’t you tired of it?”
