It's normal to ask what people did during the holidays when you get back to work.
Why? Because.
The reason for most social conventions is "because." If you try to find a well-reasoned, logical explanation for them, you are usually just wasting your time, and will only end up frustrating yourself.
Honestly, a lot of social conventions will seem weird to you since you have Asperger's. But society is the way it is, and it is too large to fight for a single person.
Just go along with it, and accept that sometimes you have to adapt to weird social customs. :)
Yeah, if you want to make friends, then you're gonna have to learn the social rules for sure.
It's best not to worry too much about the why of social rules, that can easily get your thinking stuck, and then you may end up not following the social rules just because they don't make sense to you.
If it's any comfort, many social rules don't make any logical sense to neurotypical people either. We just have an easier time accepting that many social rules are things we do "just because." :)
You're welcome. :)
I assume they are just trying to make conversation. It's a common question to ask coworkers after the Christmas break.
because extroverts thrive on small talk. it's exhausting
I thrive on meaningful conversations or at least conversations or talk with people that I actually want to build a friendship or relationship with. Extros are weird.
