OK, I actually know two men who are in such a situation, and it works out for them. Why does it work for them? Because in both cases:
1. the men are 21 and 23 years older than their wives.
2. And their younger wives did the birth and nursing and weaning and diaper changing and toilet training, leaving the early retired men for the kindergarten on up phases.
3. The men earned money and built decent careers of their own already. One is a retired USAF Colonel, the other went as far up his downsizing corporation as he knew he could realistically go and took advantage of an early retirement package. As a result,
4. The men already had houses of their own and at least SOME money of their own, and so they were not tied to the wife's purse strings, metaphorically. And so the men *do not* feel emasculated by their wives, although both have to do all the "honey-do" home improvement and gardening lists.
5. The men are NOT seen as demeaning "Stay At Home Dads", they are seen as "Stay At Home Granddads", until people get to know them. And at that point the men are seen as lucky fellows with trophy wives who managed to retire sooner.
Now there could be future downsides to this; while both men are in good shape for their ages, odds are the wives will be widows one day.
THIS is a very interesting dynamic. There are significantly older men who are stable in their lives and younger women set on making families and having that part of their existence sooner.
These guys are living the life and the women marrying men their own age will also be widows most likely though these women above are possibly able to find a life partner after their spouses are no more.
People who say it’s not a job for a real man…. Yes, if you’re smoking pot all day playing video games you’re a loser taking advantage of someone as well as many housewives are narcissistic users who have no idea how to be wives or mothers. NOT ALL…
Someone whose a stay at home parent doing it the right way is working equally as hard as their partner in a different role now the only issue I have is I may go stir crazy. It’s screaming kids, babies, changing diapers, doing all the house work, all the outdoor chores, everything. If I was married to a wife working and I wasn’t. I would not want that woman to ever have to lift a finger unless she just wanted to.
Everyone is different and I respect that. I don’t know for sure if I would ever do it. But I will say some people judge others because they’re unhappy people and jealous.
No - while I have many shortcomings and a lot of baggage in my life of already 30 years - my own decisions and my own bad lucks of course - I for one actually find even without all of that - I find the thought of offspring horrifying.
It may keep society going, but it's not for me. I mean even just fellow humans are complicated enough or a relationship with just partner is hell enough - you know. Because life, and because unpredictable and life's full of twists and turns. It can actually be very encouraging "why not stay single and just endure life" lol 😆 pleasantly endure. I mean
I did for the first 5 years of my son’s life. My son’s mother took off, was out partying, getting passed around. My brothers stayed w me at the time so they took care of the rent, things like that. I also attended school. Honestly it wasn’t that hard. People act as if they’re cleaning all day. Like they’re slaving away all day baking, cooking, wiping down all the walls w bleach, etc, etc. Then it’s even easier once the child goes to school. Most of the time things were done by 11 am. Sometimes a little later if my son didn’t take a nap. You’re not washing clothes by hand, even dishes these days most households have a dishwasher. I think too it’s easier for men because the children have a healthy sort of fear, respect for their dad when it comes to listening. When it comes to most women sure they were able to spank the child but over time the spankings don’t do much. That’s why you always hear mom usually saying you wait till your dad gets home. Just my experience though.
It's the dad thing that's off putting.
I reckon there would be plenty of men who'd happily stay at home and do the householding role and enjoy the solitude IF their spouse was a modern enough woman who wasn't the sort to find things like a work husband or tend to see it as a way to progress her career through her sexuality.
Only if I had a seriously seriously rich wife , in which case I'd probably have Nanny , so real answer is probably No , but I voted " Other " , its possible.
Hell no, i'm a REAL MAN! but yes i want a stay at home wife, a HOUSEWIFE 😁
if I ever need to stay home as a father, I will do that
I have my own business anyway... which I can also run from home, so that won't be an issue
I haven't spent time on college to only do underchallenging work.
I don't mind contributing though.
Similarly, I have no ambitions to underchallenge 'Mom' either.
I don't want to be a dad so kinda excluded from thy question.
Though in a theoretical yes, would prefer that over the opposite.
If OH had a stable income, that would cover everything, yes. Would be an easy life. Have a 5yr old and 3yr old, currently work full time. Would. love to. onlynhave to deal with kids and home
Nahhh... Her job is to take the primary responsibility for raising the kids when they're small. My job is to bring home the bacon and keep them safe.
I want to be a single father with no wife. Stay at home is whack to me.
I'm a work at home dad to pets instead of humans, I prefer that, and I want a wife who works at home with me and is a mom to our pets.
No that is embarrassing no money or job to support your family.
Eh, wouldn't be my first plan of action, but I wouldn't discount it, if it ever happened.. I prefer to be the provider..
No. A child deserves a real mother, and I would not willingly bring a child into this world who wouldn't have one.
do I get to watch soaps all day and take naps and eat and chill out and just take the kids to school and pretend like I’m doing work when I’m really not doing work still, I wouldn’t do it
i don't particularly "want" to be one but if for some reason my wife was stinking rich and it just made sense like that, i would.
No. Why are you asking this? You're looking for one?
Although there have been stressful times when I'd have happily stayed at home, I'm motivated to provide rather than care.
I doubt I would like that for very long because I always need to get out
If i have enough money that i can be a stay at home dad and not have to work then yes
I would if it were an option
Fuck no. Children are meant to be raised by mothers. The father is just the role model who offers occasional discipline and advice.
That depends how well she supports me. I don't want no brokies in 2025.😆
Only if I'm running my business from home
I'd rather do 50/50 with a partner so we can both develop our careers
No, I have professional goals.
Yes, If I had to.
I am not threatened by a woman being the bread winner of the household. Therefore, If I had to be a stay-at-home dad I would.
No , I want / wanted more from my life
No. I like working
