Is there a special place in hell for people who purposefully befriend and betray others by gaining their trust?

It can sound juvenile, and its very normalized, but it is a very petty and lowly act at a personal level. Anyone on the receiving end of it can empathize.

So in Dante’s Inferno, a piece of the Catholic doctrine which was officially adopted into the Catholic church after publishing, the poem describes the 9 circles of Hell and what each sinner does to earn their place in them. The first circle is just reserved for those who were good people but believed in the wrong god, circles 2-8 are based off of those who indulged in the 7 deadly sins with a circle dedicated to each sin. The 9th circle, the deepest pit of Hell, is reserved for those who did the most harm for humanity. It is a frozen wasteland of people in ice, unable to move and barely able to breathe. Satan sits in this ice, and inside his mouth as he chews on them for eternity, are history’s greatest betrayers, including Judas.


So yeah, I’d say there’s a special place in hell for people who betray others.
