She vented to me that one of her coworkers was kind of rude to the kids for refusing to try new foods. She said she works with neurodivergent students (don’t know where that term came from) and they were doing a fun snack for her students to try. One tried it, the rest didn’t like it or refused to eat it. She said to me that she bluntly that she said to her students that they’re lousy and lame. Just saying. I asked her what did I say to her. She shamelessly said she didn’t respond and was triggered that she said it but blurred out ‘accept (his name) because he’s the only one that tried it. The teacher didn’t respond when she said the kids are missing out.
This is what I told her, “Okay I’m going to stop you right there because that teacher no offense was very rude to those students. It takes autistic kids time to adjust to new things. Same with typical kids. I don’t want to sound rude but you’re as bad as she is. You didn’t tell her off about being rude to the kids and you enabled that. Plus when you said ‘accept for that kid’ YOU agreed with her and that’s sad because since you’re autistic yourself, you would understand, but instead, you chose to agree with her. Some teachers you ladies are.”
She looked at me blankly. She argued that that teacher was wrong and it triggered her because she’s autistic herself. I cut her off and said, “Yeah but you went along with it and didn’t stand up for those kids! If you really cared, you would have spoken up about it. You’re a bad teacher for enabling her. That’s the truth.”
She dot defensive and stormed off. I mean she asked and I gave her an honest answer. I don’t sugarcoat things. She’s an adult so I refuse to spare her feelings. Was I wrong?
