If a friend does not answer on a social media application, then he is not a friend but merely an acquaintance.

Real friends don't let you down. Someone that does not answer better have a good reason for not doing so. I would personally sever the friendship if you mean so little to him that he cannot take those 20 seconds to write a one word text.

He could be in hospital, be momentarily busy or away with no network. Those would be about the only 3 exceptions I could understand and accept. Other than that, he would not deserve my friendship.
