How easily do you befriend folks from the opposite gender? (More easily than folks from your gender)?

While it's always been easy for me to befriend guys regardless of the social/professional setting, yesterday was a funny little snapshot of how simple and quick it is. Leaving the party scene behind with the dust of 2025 I raised my hand for a cab.

I slide into the leather seat, grateful to be snug and warm, then smile broadly at the driver. "Happy New Year!"
"Happy New Year!"

We start chatting, his name's Jacob, "What a great name! So are you rocking the two-wife thing like your namesake?"

He laughed outright and by the end of the ride we'd exchanged numbers and wished each other a blessed year ahead.

Are we besties? No, but I can easily call the guy if I need a driver in a pinch.

(Not bragging, but the party I'd been at I made fast friends with the band and ended up dancing and crooning a few tunes on stage with them.)

12 very noisy hours earlier, back in 2025, I walked into the NYE party and had to interact with four different types of women:

Gal mooching off the owner (young, fake, dramatic, sloppy drunk, gunning for a sugar daddy). Our vibes clashed and we silently chose to ignore each other. She got miffed at my singing. She likes to be the center of attention, but annoyed the owner in the end.
Gal mooching off the MC (old, fake, nasty, sloppy dunk, hates everything and everyone, keeps repeating she's a Harvard grad but looks like a lapsed hooker). She kept rambling and cursing so I mouthed "HELP!" to the hostess who sat me by the next two gals.
Gal who celebrates me (but I don't know why). I apparently did something heroic her whole table witnessed but I can't remember. Great dance buddies.
Gal who read my aura (lol). Sweet shy, classy lady who loved how tight I was with the band. Turns out we're from the same regions and her "date" was actually her son, who I paired off with the owner's daughter five min before the stroke of midnight.

So my success rate befriending guys was 100% but gals 50%.

Do you find it's easier to befriend the opposite sex?

It very much depends on a lot of factors. It's easier for me to make friends who are women, but on that same token, I don't seek friends of the opposite sex.

I have a few life rules I follow. And one of those is never doing anything that could be perceived as any kind of betrayal of my marriage. So if I do interact with the opposite sex, my wife is almost always there, and in conversation I'm completely transparent with my wife. Meaning I hide nothing. If it's female coworkers, I also hide nothing.

Tough question, as I'm pretty inconsistent with it. Back when I was younger, when I had more opportunities to socialize, I don't think it was easy to befriend girls, but it happened naturally once in a while. Nowadays, I don't socialize with others anywhere nearly as often and find it pretty hard to befriend ANYONE, let alone girls.

i'd say people are really different. cause its the opposite for me. i can talk to girls on random topics but a guy? i dont even say hello to a guy. mean? maybe. but can u blame me i am not tring to be rude i am just an introvert. and people are different u know. but yeah if a guy does talk to me nicely i always reply back more polietly. so in the end i have come to the conclusion the sex doesn't matter what matters is how approachable the other person is. (and maybe your socialising skills)

At present, I have more opportunities to interact with guys rather than girls. I am president of my fraternity's alumni association and alumnus advisor to our chapter at the local state university. There are only three females in my work place, and the gender ratio at my church is fairly even. So, I end up doing more things with guys.

I actually have few male friends. Lately I find male behaviors a bit toxic... not all but there seems to be a trend. So consequently my circle of friends does seem to be leaning more female.

I like to think I get a long with whomever I come in contact with. But I'm also a decent judge of character. So yes, I befriend both sexes easily.
