When a parent buys a house for their child do they pick they pick the furniture for you or you buy it?

we furnished our two bedroom flat with used furniture from Craigslist and Offerup. All high quality prewar pieces, perhaps out of fashion now but we paid an average of $200 for top quality dressers, chests of drawers, book cases. The best was finding a Stickley dining room set, table, two leaves, six leather chairs for $700. It was $10,000 new thirty years ago.
