How do you gracefully handle friends resenting your wealth and privilege?

Two of my friends nearly turned their backs on me because their lives are hard and mine is relatively easy, in comparison and I’ve never had to go without anything or worry about money or food or safety.

Having excessive privilege does, statistically, make it harder for you to empathize in a sincere way and muddles your ability to connect with anyone outside of that social class if you lack that ability.

Probably true, because I don’t know what it’s like to be in their shoes. I do mean well though and I want to try to understand.

So make the effort, give yourself an extremely limited allowance equivalent to borderline impoverished if not just straight up impoverished and live like that for 3 months.

I already have. Except in terms of spending money on other people. Which I’ve had to cut back on too. It’s my family’s money, not mine.

Oh, then make your own. Get a minimum wage job somewhere and use only that money for yourself and your presents

Resentment is a cancer in the relationship if that is allowed to fester, then it will destroy it. Which means that they have to decide if they want to be your friend or not.

You can't stop people's feelings. All you can do is hope they see you as a good friend and get over themselves.

I suggest never discussing wealth with other people.
