Is it ever okay for a mother to slap a teen so hard they bleed?

I don't have a close relationship with my mother. I still remembered (I was 16 at the time) that horrible argument where she slapped me too hard enough to draw a bit of blood on my lips. She was saying bad words, getting in my face, being antagonistic and I only replied saying shut up and she slapped me like that. Then she had the nerve to say "Don't ever say that to your mother, got it".

Needless to say this only further infuriated me (I saw red at that moment, I beyond angry), making me scream louder than ever and I shoved her against the wall. I was closing my fist, about to hit her back but stopped at the last moment. My grandmother (mom's mother) took her side instead of at least being neutral.

I don't visit her too much. It makes me angry when people think a mother can slap teenaged child that hard enough to draw blood and how dare the teen reacts towards getting assaulted.

Off course I'm going to react with anger too, after getting assaulted and bleeding. No, what she did didn't make me calm down at all. It made me more violent.

No. If you have to get physical to “discipline” or teach a child, that really says a lot about what kind of parent you are.

Yes she sucks. She's a terrible mother. Yet she wouldn't dare slap someone like that out in public, nor slap her employees like that. She only slapped me like that but never towards others. She likely knows others would've hit her back.

I’m sorry you went through all of that. If you can, try to distance yourself from it a little and give yourself some space to heal because it seems like it’s still affecting you. What happened wasn’t your fault and you deserve to move forward without having to carry all of that with you. Take your time with it and be kind to yourself. x

I mean, my answer is absolutely not. If I ever hit my kid out of anger and it caused them to bleed, I would be mortified and rightfully understand if they didn't want to talk to me. I would have deserved that treatment. My child did not deserve getting slapped no matter how angry I get.

As someone else said, getting to the point where you have to lash out and hit your child says more about your parenting style than it does about your child's behavior

She wasn't in a position to defend herself. In fact, it was her getting in my face from the start, hurling insults, going on and on and I felt suffocated enough to simply tell her to shup up. I wanted her off my face, to really get away from me, to stop insulting, to stop talking in my face, to just stop.
And she had the nerve to then assault me over that.

Imagine an disagreement going out of control, you as the teen already want to leave but your mother gets in your face, insults you, goes screaming on and on, even follows you, antagonizing you to the point you feel so suffocated, so emotionally drained that you eventually snapped back and say shut up. You just want this all to stop already, for her to give you space but no, how dare you and she slaps you hard and draws blood.
Does that really calms you down or it further pisses you off? It sure made things even worst when she hit me. What was I suppose to do, just take it and take (continue letting her scream in my face, insulting me) and never reply back, not even verbally?

Exactly. Honestly I think I even held back more than what she did. It was an argument at first. She escalated it to a physical fight.
Yet she hasn't ever slapped anyone in public like that. She would know she would get hit back. So why hit her child like that?
