Is it normal to feel anxious and uneasy about attending funerals?

I really don’t like attending funerals because of how incredibly sad the entire occasion is. Especially when it comes to viewing the bodies of those in the coffin—it makes me extremely uneasy and uncomfortable every single time I see it.

I understand that it's a way for people to show respect and say their final goodbyes, but the heavy atmosphere and the visual of an open casket just stick with me in a bad way. Am I the only one who feels this way, or do other people also struggle with the anxiety and uneasiness that comes with attending a funeral?

The first wake and funeral I went to was on the last day of school when I was 13 in junior high school. It was for a girl student who was my buddy in gym class. We used to run around the school together and she used to tell me what what her dreams for her life were going to be after high school. She was brutally murdered while babysitting. It was the mother of the children's boyfriend who butchered my friend Lana to death.

In highschool one of my friends Eddy was shot with a shotgun by another student.

Another one happened in high school as well during a high speed chase from the cops their car went over a cliff.

A young man who I had a date with the upcoming Monday was killed over the weekend in a white water rafting trip. I was 26. He was also 26.

The next one was a suicide of my friend Albert who committed suicide when his girlfriend broke up with him. I was 28.

The last one was a woman who died of a horrible disease at age 58.

After her funeral I swore to never go to another one and I didn't. They are too stressful for me.

Yeah normal. It’s a funeral not a party, nobody goes there happy

I could walk into a funeral of someone I don't know and literally cry my eyes out..

Example , colleague from work , just had his 2nd child ( 11 years apart ) sak from job , all bad karma , then literally drove his car into the path of fast moving truck ( not deliberately) , he also killed another young worker.

I had grown to really like this guy , after a tough start , he was not really that good at his job.

I got to funeral , I drove around and around , he had wife and another child , and close family.. I was in such a state , and I didn't want to seem the sadest ( didn't feel that was my right ) .. so much so , couldn't go in.

Luckily, where I live we don't have the open-casket tradition at all. Usually only close family members or relatives see the body if they want to. Other than that, nobody really sees it, so I guess funerals aren't that bad if you don't have to look at the body.

Couldn't pick one of the options, because i'm both, i mean such events are filled with sadness and anxiety, but in the end i have to go and pray for the one who passed away and also to pay respect and comfort his/her closed ones!

The most thing that i hate about funerals are the clowns who never cared about the deceased person when they were alive but now are crying and acting as if they have truly loved this person!

You’re freaking me out because of your question and pictures I had a bad dream about this and I had to go to professional doctor. That’s how bad it was and I got claustrophobia for 4 weeks this is rattling in my cage this question
