After I got back from a deployment, I came home during the pandemic and my parents (mainly my dad) was unbearable and was constantly starting arguments. So much so that shortly before I returned, my brother left the house. Shortly after I returned home I left as well. My brother heard of this and offered me to move in with him. (Which I did)
We have been living in 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartments since. With the most recent one being one that he took a mortgage out on and I pay him rent.
We moved to this recent residence in order to be able to get a pet. We have lived here for a few years now but there was no pet… so I bought a cat. The first kitten was very ill when I got her from the breeder and she didn’t make it. My brother showed signs he didn’t want the kitten. Then the breeder offered a free replacement and so I brought home a male bengal kitten. He did show signs of being more welcoming of the kitten but one night the kitten kept meowing around him and he got irritated and brought him to my room and set him on my bed and walked away without saying a word.
I reached a point where I have realized it’s time for me to part ways with my brother to give him space. Obviously I would not want to screw him over and one day surprise him by leaving, ideally move around the time he finds a new roommate so he doesn’t have to eat the entire cost of his mortgage. But I am definitely planning on finding my own place in the near future. It’s sad because I didn’t expect things to turn out this way.

There will always be some type of family dilemma or tension may come up time to time. I know it was not ideal, but you’re probably learning that maybe your family just have different styles of communicating and living. This could be something that you both can communicate about when it comes to pets and sharing space of living to see if you both can resolve this while still living together. It’s also a normal roommate situation. Or if you just prefer to move out on your own for your own peace of mind and freely. It’s okay to tell him you’re thinking of moving out to give him time to prepare for it and a good time period of when you plan to move out.
My own family is kind of the same way where we all live a part now, and it’s honestly for the best. I am sure we missed each other time to time, but we just need that space due to having our own differences, careers, creating family, and so on. But when we see each other, we’re still family and we’re fine.
@bobalife good point raised.
Yeah exactly, I’ve just come to terms that maybe he’s got other personal problems and unfortunately he channeled it out when I got a cat (maybe he wanted a dog) in any case, I’ve come to terms that maybe this is a sign for me to go my separate ways and give my brother the space. I gave the cat away for adoption but I’m keeping all the cat stuff so that when I get my own place I get another one
In my early teenage years I had more often arguments with my parents. Just the usual stuff you would think of, nothing that would last. But haven't had any in a few years now which I'm happy about. I really don't like arguing with them. With my brother I only can remember one big argument. I just locked myself in for a few days and cried. Can't handle arguing with him. Eventually we had another talk and it was all good again.
Yeah that’s how it is for me. I don’t want to be arguing with my family at all. Especially at my age when I did it so many times when I was younger. It’s draining
I haven't talked to one of my siblings in years
Pretty much all of them. I dont frankly care. I tried when they didn't deserve it, didn't go well, and cut all contact
I have not spoken to my brother in 15 years. He knows where I live if he wanted to see me
With the sister, she’s very difficult
@Danny_dan92 Ignored them and went home
It got sorted out In time
