Why was she embarrassed to hug me in front of her friend?

This girl hugs me all the time when she sees me and I playfully tickle her sometimes, too, when she does it. However, when she saw me today, she was with her friend. She came up to me like usual, all happy and everything, but instead...shook my hand?!?!

Why did she do that? It probably has something to do with her friend.

Her friend is a girl, btw.

It sounds like something to do with her relationship with the other girl, not you... I mean do you know anything about the friend? Or how close they are? Or if you girl even likes her?

I used to be close with this girl who was French and very not touchy feeling to the point other people being touchy feely made her uncomfortable, so we toned everything down around her for her comfort.

Not without knowing her... It could've been her lesbian lover, she could have a boyfriend that her friend knows about, she may not want people to know she's that close to you, maybe she doesn't like public displays of affection. Sorry I really don't know, you could ask her.

I don't know why. There could be tons of reasons. Could be that she's not really that close to the friend to tell her stuff. Or she doesn't know how she feels about you yet so don't want to show anything in front of people. A lot of other possible reasons. If you really want to know, you'd have to ask her, not us.

The only experience I had was not hugging a guy friend because another guy friend was there and I don't want to hug the other guy.

it's possible that she's introducing you to a girl that has a crush on you. if it happens even when she's not around anymore, she realized where the hugs and tickling were going, even if you don't yet. if the latter is the case, she could be freaking out trying to figure out if she likes you like that or ... .

Her friend would spread gossip, probably, and she doesn't want a public discussion of what your relationship might be. This 'friend' is no doubt a chatterbox..or, is a close friend, and would demand to know exactly what she thinks of you.

She might not want to be 'on the spot' in that way.
