Maternity Fashion Lookbook

Maternity fashion has come a long way from the corsets women still actually had to wear whilst pregnant, to the giant shapeless balloon tents that used to drape over women, to the time period we are in now, where you can find just about anything you would wear pre-pregnancy in made to wear maternity gear. Pregnancy no longer means 9 long months of boring shapeless styles. You can embrace whatever you fashion sense is while also embracing your ride into motherhood.

Maternity Style and Comfort Tips

1. Wear your pre-preggers clothing as long as you can before bumping up to maternity gear. Women don't tend to really start showing much until around 3-4 months, but regardless, you can rock things like your shorts/pants/skirts with the aid of a belly band that goes around the waist and over your buttons/zippers, that allows you to wear them even while open if they get too tight to close, but you'll still be covered up. Button down shirts can also be worn unbuttoned with a tank underneath. Shirts that start riding up will also be helped with the belly band. Whatever style you like now, just continue to wear it while pregnant whether you're a rocker chick or a Boho one.

2. Your feet are most likely (definitely) going to swell. Go up a size +, and widen. This adjustment is usually temporary to your pregnancy. You're gonna have a lot of pressure on those things and a lot of swelling that just comes with being preggers. Comfortable supportive flats will be a staple. Open toe wide shoes for sure. And the closer you get to your due date, ditch any shoes that you would normally have to bend over to lace up, tie, or snap down. At the point of 7-8-9 months, go for anything you can just slide into.

3. Jersey, Stretch Knit, Lycra or frankly anything with stretch in it is going to work. The last thing you want to feel is restricted and uncomfortable in your growing body.

4. Buy a size up. Expanding busts, waistlines, bottoms--comes with the territory, but buying a size up will give you the room you need and if you still like the style, after giving birth, rather than toss every item, belt it, alter it, cut it up, make it work.

5. If you're feeling self conscious about your body, layer your outfits with long and/or flowing capes, vests, or long jackets over your gear. Wearing black is as always, an option but maybe rock some brighter jewelry so you don't look like you're always going to a funeral. Maxi dresses and skirts tend to skim the body and are very loose and comfortable.
