Commonly referred to as a bra, the small fabric device is used to help support a woman's breasts. Invented on November 3rd, 1914, bras have been around for 102 years and even more if counting the practice of binding and wrapping them - even as early as Roman times. It's no secret (helllooo Victoria's secret) that most every woman wears them and usually begins and ends their day either taking it off or putting it on.

A common misconception is in regards to sizing. With sizes ranging from 32a to 32dd to 42b, it's easy to get confused. First looking at the data, you can see there's a number with a letter. The number corresponds to just below the bust, in other words your rib cage and goes up accordingly. The letters on the other hand, correspond to the fullest part of your bust. For example, a 34d might be someone with average sides breasts and a large under bust.

Feel free to ask questions even though you could probably just Google them! I just felt like explain bra sizes because the example pic happens all too often.

I hate buying bras. My ribcage is freakishly small (24) due to having to wear a brace on my torso during puberty, when it's supposed to grow a lot, so I have to order custom ones. But my boobs are pretty small (B cup) anyway, so normally I just don't wear bras. I have a bunch of sportsbras for exercise, a few cute bralettes that I have more for fashion than function (those are also easier to find in the right size, because they're often geared toward people who haven't hit puberty), and two normal bras for when I have conferences and mock trial tournaments, and other things for which my nipples poking my shirt would not be optimal. But most of the time I just don't wear bras.

It makes sense that there are so many variation s considering how breast tissue works, but I would never pay attention to the differences unless I was tasked with purchasing them.

They are confusing. I Googled a size and received photos that vary greatly. Some look small, some look huge even though the size combination (32D for example) is the same. Weird.

I hear bras are bad for your breast and your should not wear them. I heard that a camisole is much better. How true is that?

I mean no it's not really true. It's like support so not wearing them would actually be bad for your back because of the weight. It's heavy and putting some of the weight onto your shoulders help. For smaller boobs, I suppose it doesn't matter but for larger ones it will cause back issues.

Very interesting take. I am fairly familiar with sister sizes. if you are a 38DDD you can fit into a bra that's a 36DD. They both hold the same volume.

Uhh if you look it up there should be a chart. It's not like exactly a number. For example a 34a isn't a only 30 inch bust or whatever it is, it's just general guve or take a few inches. I would attach a chart but you can't do that in an update

Uh A cup is small, it's like 7th grade barely there. B cup is small too but they're actually there, C cup is the medium size and D cup is slightly larger and DD cup is huge. The other measurement, with the number, is just like right below the boobs, it's how bug your rib cage is

The number is a measurement around your rib cage, just below your breasts... The US/UK/India number is in inches, the one shown for France/Spain/Belgium is in CM.

The letter in the US is the number of addition inches in your measurement over your breasts ,
A =1, B=2, C=3, etc. In Metric countries, roughly, divide by 2.5 cm.
