Girls, when you tell people your bra size, do they underestimate or overestimate how big they actually are?

People have very limited knowledge of how bra sizing works, especially because they think D cup and above must be always big, which is false. Band size matters too. A 28G would be quite small whereas a 38C would be fairly big. So it's not that uncommon that if you tell someone your size, they might think you're really big when you're not, or they might think you aren't that big but in reality you are. Or maybe neither happens and people generally tend to estimate correctly or are not at all surprised by your bra size when they get to see how they actually look.

It's better if you can include your bra size. I'm allowing anonymous answers because some of you might not feel entirely safe to share such a personal detail.

Let's do the math using the numbers you gave - - - - - -

a 28G is a 28" band with a 7" increase on the overbust size, or 35" overbust.
a 38C is a 38" band with a 3" increase on the overbust size, or 41" overbust.

If you are looking strictly at the inches, ok, yes, there is a 6" difference between them.

Let's take a look at the percentage of DIFFERENCE between the band (underbust) and the overbust measurements, and convert that into a percentage of change on the individual.

A 7" increase on a 28" underbust gives a 25% difference in size, underbust to overbust, for the first gal.

A 3" increase on a 38" underbust gives only an 8% difference in size, underbust to overbust, for the second gal.

I would be 99.44% inclined to take the "small" 28" band with that "suddenly erupting" bustline any day of the week.

Typically, the size is the band size, and the cup increases an inch per cup size. G = 7" increase, etc.

They underestimate. When I went for a bra fitting, the woman tried to measure me just by looking at them. She had me trying on a 34 B... It didn’t fit so she thought I needed a smaller one. I am a 32 DD..

No. It depends on the band size too.

Band size is basically the size of the circumstances right under the boobs (where the band of the bra goes) and cup size is determined by the difference between the measurement of the fullest part of the breasts and the band measurement.

So one can be a large cup size and still not have very big breasts if the band size is small, and someone might have large boobs but wear a cup size that sounds rather humble because their band size is big.

Geez, I would say this is way too complicated but it seems kind of necessary. I'm fairly confident I wouldn't be able to at all estimate anyone's bra size based on numbers, which is why I never ask.
