If makeup is just companies trying to make money off of insecurity, then why don't men wear it too?

I'm not saying we should, or anyone should wear it, but, if makeup companies just make makeup to prey on peoples insecurity, then why don't men wear it too

Yes, hollywood actors do etc.. but, otherwise, you generally don't see men wearing makeup

Please don't say "because it's womanly". If it was womanly, you would NEVER see a man, including hollywood, doing it

Are you kidding? Those people live an alternative reality. Fame and money give you a lot more leeway with women make up or not.

Anyway think of Freudian dynamics. Men will usually behave in a way they believe (both consciously and subconsciously) that will best improve their sexual viability with women.

Now that doesn’t mean they are right about their beliefs or having success at it. But still they will take social cues and act accordingly.

So most men know that women are attracted to rugged masculinity. Even if the guy isn’t that masculine and knows it he deep down knows that most women are not attracted to effeminate men regardless of what they “say” they want. Men with feminine characteristics only make women feel less intimidated/relatable. But feeling relatable is not often the same as romantic attraction. It’s often the opposite (unfortunately)

Now of course men are bombarded with tons of mixed messages on there. Lots of contradictions. But I can tell you right now that no straight man is going to do well romantically/sexually with most women if he wears make up (and does it often). Exceptions are if he’s already prominent, famous and/or wealthy. He has to have something else going for him.

What kind of makeup would a man wear? Eye shadow? Lipstick? Rouge?

I seriously doubt if women wound think that made a guy more attractive.

No doubt, some guys will try it, hoping it will set them apart and draw attention from girls (not women). And some girls might like the effeminate look. Just like some kids like Goth and other sub-cultures.

The only reason male TV celebrities and film actors wear make up is to correct for the lights and cameras.

The purpose of makeup in real life is to make women look younger and make them look as feminine as possible. Do guys want to look more feminine?

Tbh I live in an area where you really wouldn’t notice anyone - man or woman - is wearing makeup unless it’s a special occasion. I live in an area where it’s raining like 75% of the year so people just kinda go with whatever is most comfortable for them.

I'm pretty sure historically makeup use to be super popular for men back a long time ago. Same with heels and wigs. Men were way more into fashion than women. It's only recently that women have joined in on the makeup trend and it died out for men

Ever seen an actor filmed without makeup? They look super washed out with all the lighting. The point of makeup on men in hollywierd is to make them look normal, not "made up." Now how successful that is... that's another story, but that's the original intent. It wasn't because Tom Cruise secretly wants to wear eye liner it's because without it he'd look like a zombie in Top Gun.

They do. Men just have different insecurities. Hair color for men and spray paint to hide your bald spot. Men have long used hair spray, mousse, gel, etc. The moustache boom has resulted in an explosion of products and companies to help fellas make their soup catchers look dapper.
