I was watching old movies and I noticed that everyone dressed elegantly unlike today.

When my family was in China in the previous generations, clothes were hard to find at super markets and most people made their own by getting the maternal figures in the family to sew the clothes themselves.

What this means is the outfits they wore had less flash and dynamic cross bridging colour, were more conservative, but less frivolous, and less tailored to specific social occasions.

Clothes were about hiding nudity and keeping warm, not personalizing a personality script you want to present to the world around you for social engagement purposes.

I wouldn't call it superior. Back then, people tended to follow social norms, to fit into the group. Now, it's exactly the opposite. Many people try their hardest to be unique, completely against being part of society as a whole.
