Why don't men like short hair on a woman?

Question

I told my guy friend that I probably will cut my hair short at 40 or maybe even before then and he kind of made a cringe sound lol  Why do many men not like it?

no idea... because I can for sure love it

but two things... not ALL of the short haircuts are a good look for everyone, and this goes the same for any and every other haircut regardless of length... right? sometimes... a very short hair won't look nice for whatever reason, it just doesn't but when it looks good and great, it is amazing

and the second thing, familiarity... sometimes people are just used to see you in a certain way, and moreso when you already look great with longer hair... taking that away over night, that can feel not right... even if the shorter hair looks great and amazing too, is just not the same... some people feel that way, lol

and, as someone who had long mid/long hair since age 18 or so, any time I tried to cut my hair back to short there was either a friend, or a girlfriend or both who said NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! and that, just because there were used to my longer hair rather than short, even the ones who would wonder and did prefer shorter hair on me, were like... no, don't change that drastically lol

so it's not only men... women can feel the same way too

Long hair on women was a sign of femininity when women weren't expected to do anything but stay home, do needlepoint all day, and brush their hair for hours in the evening. It was a sign of affluence.

And there are some cultures around the world where it is the tradition for women (and sometimes men) to not cut their hair.

Long hair looks best on women with straight hair.

From age 16 in 1970, my early girlfriends had fairly long hair because the hippie style was all natural. No perms or styles. They usually parted it in the middle and wore headbands.

In 1994, I was in a year long relationship with a 31 year old with strawberry blonde hair. It was naturally wavy and about this long:

In 1996 I met the sexiest girlfriend I ever had. She was 30 when we met. Her hair style was sort of like this, except she was a natural light blonde. Her hair was like a fluffy, bouncy, shimmering halo. I loved it.

My wife has really curly red hair. She has a shoulder-length style because, if it was long, it would be wider than her shoulders.

I don't associate long hair with femininity. That strikes me as an old fashioned social construct. For me, really long hair just gets in the way.

There are lots of shoulder-length cuts that flatter a woman's face, are really, really cute and super feminine.

It’s not necessarily that men don’t like short hair on women , it’s the fact that when he met her , he was attracted to her with the longer hair that she already had , and when she decides to want to go short or she already went short without discussing it with him first , he might find it unattractive on her , if she doesn’t look good with short hair , Short hair on girls’ is a hit or miss on whether she will still look attractive with it or not. So not every girl with short hair is unattractive, maybe to some guys’ but it just comes down to how she looks with short hair , Me personally prefers longer hair on girls’ whether it’s shoulder length or longer but it doesn’t mean I won’t find a short hair girl unattractive, especially if she looks great with it. It’s kind of like a girl that doesn’t have tattoos that decides to cover herself in tattoos, and unfortunately she might not look good anymore with tattoos. So it mainly comes down to how she looks the first time he meets her and if she decides to to change how she looked in the beginning it might turn him off if she doesn’t look good with her new hair style or tatts etc.. The bottomline it’s her life and her decision whether he likes it or not , that’s his problem not hers’ Everyone has their own preferences of what they like and don’t like with somebody.

Because men look for femininity in women not masculinity. Probably you'd say "a short haired woman can be feminine too" but things don't go like this. According to scientific studies when it comes to sexual desires people are ruled by subconscious (not by consciousness) and in most of us' subconsciousness being short haired is coded with being masculen so even if men say "short haired women can be feminine too" when they see a short haired woman automatically they couldn't find her as feminine as long haired women.

I don’t think all men dislike short hair on women. A lot of it comes down to personal preference and what they naturally find feminine or attractive.

Some are more used to long hair, while others actually find short hair confident and attractive.

For me, how someone carries themselves matters more than the hairstyle itself.

As a woman, I don't like it either. I think it's because in my language we usually call short hair on women "αγορέ" which means boyish and I'm a victim of society's stupid rules of what's feminine and what's not, so my first thought when I see it is "yuck" but I am fighting against it. I will however not be cutting my hair short because it's curly and I like feeling like a mermaid rather than a sheep with a bad cut.

Short, as pictured, is okay but very short or shaved makes you feel like you're fucking another guy. Most guys want to be with someone that looks like a woman. Personally, the longer the better!! I like running my fingers through her hair. I like the way it cascades over her body or the many things she can do with it (pigtails, ponytails, French braids, swooping waves, etc.).

Personally, I prefer girls with long, or medium length hair (shoulder length, or slightly shorter). It doesn't have to be loose hair, I like ponytails, or braids, especially when they are combined with bangs.

Short hair on girls is not attractive in my opinion, I don't care about social constructs such as "femininity/masculinity", my reason is purely aesthetic.

Because it’s not attractive short hair. Men have short hair. Those are for women that don’t have good hair anymore and they’ve got so many dead split ends. It looks all dry out, but if you can keep it long and healthy and just cut 1/8 of an inch off every once in a while, then grow it out that’s a sign of feminism beautiful, long hair

Each man like what they like. Some like short, some don't care and others only like it long.
