Girls, is a guy calling a woman "Honey, "Darling," or any term of endearment sexist?

Doesn't the act of calling someone "sexist" imply that you think they hold certain demeaning attitudes and beliefs about women? Does a man calling a woman "honey" invariable suggest that the man holds those attitudes and beliefs? Is it possible for a man to call a woman "honey" and not hold those attitudes and beliefs?

Calling someone "sweetie", "honey", or "darling" during an argument or discussion is generally considered condescending.

Girls on this site do it ALL the time.

Yeah I guess I noticed that too. I was inspired to write this question when I saw an online video of a guy debating a feminist and he said "darling," and she went apeshit.

Like any word, it's more how you say it than the word itself.

A male cashier just said "Have a nice day, hon" to me and it was just friendly.

But if it was say, a coworker of equal rank and he was like "Hey honey, why don't you get me and the guys some coffee." He's probably sexist.

Like most things it's not so much what you say but how you say it. If your helping an elderly woman ( or anyone really) and call her Hun I think it's fine. If your shouting it down the street at someone or using it in a way that talks down to them... it's not great.

No, I use terms of endearment all the time on friends. I don't like it when men say "woman" at me in a strong, angry tone.
