Why do I take insults better than compliments?

well anytime somebody compliments me, I feel really uncomfortable, awkward, & sometimes I just wanna hide my face in a pillow. but when someone insults me, I take it constructively & am don't with it after that.

its really weird. I just don't really like when people compliment me. I'm more comfortable being insulted than complimented. (I don't have low confidence or anything) I think its more of not knowing how to respond... this is normal right, or am I the only one? :)

I know how you feel and usually it has more to do with poor self esteem. Like when someone tells me I'm pretty or something, it kinda just rolls off my back like its nothing, I see it the same as if someone is telling me "well you look good in that shirt." You appreciate the compliment, but it doenst make you feel any one way in particular.

Im more ready to be insulted too, because I always feel I'm a work in progress, and I feel better when people insult me becuase I can work on it, and its like a to-do list.

I feel the same way. When I get a compliment, I feel as if it is untrue, I don't deserve it, and their just saying it to be nice. But when I'm insulted, its easier for me to laugh it off and joke about it. It gets really awkward when I'm complimented...So I guess my self esteem is kinda low...

because that is how you really feel about yourself and when you get a compliment you think it's hogwash.

Maybe you feel that when people insult you, they are speaking the truth, but when they compliment you, you feel like they are sugarcoating something to let you down easy.

i get awkward when people compliment me too! you're not the only one don't worry... its nice to know I'm not all alone either
