Sometimes girls say that because they don't know how else to respond when a guy calls them sexy. Many times the girl is actually uncomfortable about the comment the guy made to her. They are just trying to be graceful about the comment and so they say that.

Because then the guy will call her self-absorbed and act like he wasn't trying to ask her out. If a guy flirts with a girl but doesn't overtly ask to be with them and the girl rejects the guy the guy will act like he never was trying to ask her out and she's full of herself for assuming that.

It's an incredibly common response from guys.

Trust me, if your girlfriend is giving that response to guys she is not flirting back and she isn't interested. You don't need to worry.
