Let me give you a situation, you walk into the classroom right? The girl you like is looking at you, but then there's another girl who you have no interest in. Both girls look at you, you don't think much of what the girl you aren't interested in is looking at you for. Maybe you assume she is checking who is walking in the room.

But for the girl you are interested in, you wonder both of those options.

I check out my crush if he's leaving the room. But then sometimes I just take a quick glance at people entering or leaving the room. It's just my eyes roaming. I'd say focus more on other body languages rather than quick glances!
