I do sometimes send a cheeky little wink at girls... but it's not really a flirtatious thing... it's more like a casual gesture for me... like a smile/smirk followed by a wink and then saying hey just to be friendly...

To be honest it can work wonders... I often do the same with other guys, doormen/bouncers, policemen etc... it's a cool non verbal way of breaking the ice with strangers.

One time it even got me and some friends out of a bar brawl lol... things were getting heated between a friendand others guys at the pub... and then before it sparked off.. I just pulled my friend away looked over at the other guy.. smiled and winked at him and then told him it's all good mate.. you boys enjoy your night... and we walked off...

In terms of girls winking at me... its normally mature and confident women that do it... I once had this lady that looked like she was in her 50s pull up in a range rover.. park up and then as she walked past she winked at me... I was 19 at the time.. and till this day its been a pretty memorable experience 😅...

I know that winks can be VERY awkward if you don't have that charisma to go along with it.

My strategy with using winks when I was in high school was to do an overly dramatic or obnoxious wink in order to make the girl laugh. That was my goal, if she laughed I made progress with her.

I think I'd look awkward, but I like receiving them. I am good with other means of communication though... of course that requires the other person being able to pick up what you want to say. once during a meeting had a "conversation" with someone through eye contact only and we both agreed we should leave the meeting and go outside. We never exchanged a single word, stood both up at the same time and left the room. People were wondering afterwards what the heck got into us.
