Unfortunately I'm a werid case, as they wouldn't XD nothing about whether they are shy or not, but very few people have my number as I am very protective of it. My main communication for people is facebook, and if the time came I gave someone my number then it is likely we are friends or something...
But personally, I don't take interest in anyone on a first second meeting, as I take time getting to know someone before deciding whether I find them attractive, it is just how I am...

I guess just ask. I know people that are shy have a hard time doing that but they have to ask. Maybe ask for an email address would be easier not as direct and feel less tention communicating through email.
