Is it normal for a boy to say he's nervous around me, and "doesn't know why"?

So Im gonna explain this real quick. I am in a professional swimming team and my friends (the team) and I stay and talk and play games I was left alone with him he pretty much avoided "skin" contact if my knees bumped with his he would get nervous and scoot a bit when we go a team cheer and we put our hands together mine and his were pretty close.

So basically we were left alone he made funny facial expressions and laughed and I asked him why, he said he left nervous and I asked again and he said I don't know he wanted me to make conversation to make him less nervous he talked about his family asked me questions and it was a normal convo but there was this mood that he was still nervous.

That would be the typical reaction of an introvert person that is confronted with the fact that he does not really know how to behave on a one to one basis with a person of the opposite gender.

This is pretty normal and happens probably more often than one would want to admit. I believe that this boy may have a crush on you but is obviously too shy to tell you or even to want to admit it in your presence.

Also, he does not want to be seen as a creep with his body touching yours by fear that you would either reject him or make comments about his behavior.

To sum up: yes, it is totally normal, mainly in your age group.
